I just bought a 4003, so it was nice to see how it was made, and see the artisans that made it.

Quality is to be praised but you guys are so behind in the process.
Study PRS or Suhr.

Totally amazing. Such talented people. Now I feel much better about what I pay for a Rickenbacker or other American made guitar.

Awesome video. This makes me appreciate my 4003 fireglo bass even more than I already do. This makes me want a rickenbacker guitar too. Nice too see all the hands on craftsmanship and attention to detail made in the USA.

Finally splurged and bought a Rick after wanting one for over 30 years, like my heroes Geddy and Squire. I love it!! It’s not just the unique tone and the beautiful look, it’s also a piece of Americana. When not playing, I’ll still look over at it throughout the night and pinch myself.

I ran across a 61 stratocaster that was beat all to hell and was missing a few original parts (2 pickups, pick guard, bridge, and pots had been replaced). The case was completely trashed as well, but i ended up being offered a 67 Rickenbacker bass, a gibson sg and firebird. I ended up trading it for a PRS 408 and some cash. I kick myself for not getting the Ric. The PRS has been a great guitar, but truthfully i could never afford either if i had to pay for them out of my pocket

I had two 4001's back in the 70s, i fell like the ultimate idiot for every trading them in for a Fender Jazz and P-bass.
Now i cant afford one.

My 2018 4003 Bass came with the bridge mounted crooked and a couple bridge saddles rattling. I put an aftermarket bridge on after the factory fixed the bridge alignment. They more or less refused to send me all new saddles and just sent two. Seemed a bit nit-picky on their part.

Yes, I would do it all over. It’s a fine instrument.

Just don’t think the sound is that much different from a Fender Jazz. It’s about the same.

Is anything done by hand anymore? I guess not. And yet they get $2000-$4000 a guitar.

Always barter at guitar vendors. These might retail close to 3 or 4 thousand but there is a ton of retail price margin between that price and what the music store paid for it. There is no place where I've gotten better mark downs on my purchase than music stores. If the place is big enough, there are salesmen trying to make their bonus who don't even care if they net 5 bucks because their bonus deadline is coming up soon. And if you know the date by which they've got to make their sales to qualify you can come in a day or two before that date for the best bargains. And make sure to get a markdown from the markdown or at least pick up an amp at cost.

I traded my Sickenbacker for a Fender Jazz Bass and couldn't be happier.
Your bridges are string cutters!
I haven't broken a string on my Fender.
The Fender J pickups have way more output, and bass.
Make your truss rod pockets so you can properly get the adjustment tool in there. Holy shit man!

Now I know, in addition to their rich heritage, why they're so expensive; they're not just guitars, they're meticulously handmade works of art.

As a Rush fan, I love the 4003 bass and as a Tom Petty fan I love their guitars. So glad they are still made in America and still in Santa Ana. I had a Rickenbacker guitar that had the same shape as the 4003 bass many years ago. The quality of the R shaped bridge just stood out as quality back then and even more so nowadays. If I ever get my playing up to par and enough money together, I won’t think twice about buying another Rickenbacker. What you are sure to get with every Rickenbacker is the level of attention you would expect from Fender’s custom shop. They sound great, play sweet, and look gorgeous. Rickenbacker doesn’t make a a player series in Mexico or Squire series in Asia. Just beautiful guitars 100% American made. Rickenbacker is an absolute So Cal and American treasure.

Pro tip. There's no point in up-playing the fact that someone scrapes a binding with a razor blade. We're not talking about critical steps done by 25-year experienced Craftsmen. You show me a Man or a Woman using carbon paper and a nail file and then you can talk about shit being hand made. Nobody needs the sales department and nobody needs the marketing department. That was 1950 something.
