I just bought a vintage Marantz 15. How would I utilize that? What is a pre amp? Would I need one? If I get an AVR would that be my pre amp also? What is a receiver? I am so cinfused. People say Marantz 15 is a very solid amp but I may need to get it reconditioned. Or I can get a newer Marantz and forget about dealing with the vintage. What do you think?

There is actually quite a bit wrong with this video. For starters 7.1 is not 5.1 with side surround added, it is 5.1 with back surround added. So 5.1 is Center,Left,Right,LeftSurround,RightSurround and Sub. Then 7.1 adds BackLeftSurround and BackRightSurround. Also you could be clearer, the speakers themselves do not have to "support" Atmos or DTS:X. The reciever/amp/decoder has to support it. There is no such thing as a speaker that supports dolby atmos and if they are advertised as such it is just marketing BS. That doesn't mean all speakers will sound just as good as eachother though a good speaker is a good speaker. Also it is worth noting that if your reciever/decoder does not support atmos or DTS:X but you have a surround system like a 7.1 or 5.1. You can still use and select an Atmos or DTSX track in the Blu-Ray menu and get surround sound, it just won't be true object based surround. This is becasue each of these formats are backwards compatible, so it will revert to the embedded lossless non-object based version that suits your setup, In most cases Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio.

I have 7 speakers and 1 subwoofer. (1) Center channel, (2) in-wall left & right front speakers, (4) 8" circular speakers that can be mounted to the ceiling or the wall. I have (2) rows of couches (1) sitting in front of the other. The back couch is sitting on a riser for added height. I have 7 ft ceilings, so the ceiling is not tall. I have no back wall behind the 2 couches to mount rear seat level speakers. Well, actually I do but it is super far away. I would have to crank those rear speakers to the max in order to make the sound even, so I'm not counting that back wall. I have a wall on each side of the couches. I have the 2 front facing speakers mounted inside the wall. I have the center channel sitting under the TV on a stand. Subwoofer sitting next to the stand on the floor. I'm thinking I should install two speakers on each side wall about 2 feet above ear level position between the two couches. I'm really confused on where to place the last two ceiling speakers because I have no back wall. Should I place the last two speakers behind the second couch inside my drop ceiling and try to aim the adjustable tweeter towards the front or should I mount them in the drop ceiling pointed straight down between the front and rear couch? Any good suggestions would be great. I have a Onkyo TX-NR6050 7.2 av receiver.

I have 2 Klipsch ceiling speakers installed in my basement and another set of 2 Klipsch ceiling speakers are installed in my Living room. Should I buy 2.1 or 3.1 or 5.1 or 7.1 channel amplifier. please suggest which ever is appropriate in my case? Also, is 1 AV receiver sufficient for Klipsch ceiling speakers installed in my basement and Living room?

set you up a 84.84.0 system, a globe of speakers you are trapped inside of with a constant stream really bad music playing at 90dB until you finally give up the location of the secret base and or password for the bank vault

I have 4 in ceiling speakers that terminate at a wall plate. What is the best way to utilize these? 2 of them are near the TV sitting area the other 2 are on the other side of the room. I have an older Yamaha 6.1 reciver with no hdmi or digital optical ports. I want to use these mainly for music coming from the TV. The TV is a new samsung with no RCA ports.

for example, with a 9.1.2 dolby atmos reciever and i 5.1.2 speaker setup could i theoretically use the unused main 9's as another set of height speakers? or do i need to buy a 5.1.4 reciever?

Could you recommend a good quality, but simple to understand and set up AV receiver brand to look at? I currently have a Marantz AV receiver right now, but it’s way too much. I over bought. I don’t use 75% of what it can do. I just need something that can run my 5.1 set up and still let me stream my Spotify. Thank you. Love your video explanations!

I have just discovered 'dts 2.0+Digital Out' marked on the back of my super-cheap LG BP-250 Blu-Ray player.
So I am guessing this will not produce the sexy 5.1 that my old DVD player did when connected to my Amp via optical.
The Blu-Ray only has HDMI out, which I connect to the TV then take an SPDF coax from the TV to a Coax in on my amp... But for sure, I only get a stereo signal!!
Any help would be appreciated please. 👍

So what happens if my TV show is 2.0 but connects to my 7.1 receiver? Does sound only come out of 2 of the 7 speakers?

And does my TV have to be capable of 7.1. Mine has Dolby ATmos. Is that 7.1?

I also found you through Income School.

The first number is the number of directional channels yes, the second number is actually the number of subwoofer signals. You can have 10 subwoofers and it's still considered 5.1 or 7.1, it just depends how many individual signals you have (as you mention, left or right). Since bass frequencies from about 80Hz and below are not directional, it's very common to only have the .1 aspect for most systems however depending how detailed these frequency ranges are, the format may opt for more channels of low frequency especially if the range covers above 80Hz.

Any reasonable bookshelf speaker should be able to output down to 80Hz and below and as long as channels 1 and 2 handle down to 80Hz, most of that separation is really not required. Advanced speaker systems from Bose and other companies employing speaker arrays and psycho-acoustics will be the ones to more often employ more channels and more frequency separation.

Found you through income school. What is compressed and uncompressed and why would anyone care? Would you recommend wireless speakers for the rear speakers to avoid wiring?
