When you are playing a round, you aren’t aloud to take practice swings through and lifting the sand.

Swinging soft from greebside bunkers has put me in more birdie positions than any other tip. Apply accordingly.

Danny what club are you using for that hard sand? 60*?

Great tips, particularly the short sequence for hard sand, i.e. the kind of bunkers some of us see at “budget” courses!

Given the position in the bunker, the distance to the hole, and the lie and the lip on the bunker, I would be looking to play it like a normal pitch shot with a 52 degree. Try not to take any sand at all, or very little. It generally works consistently, even more so on compacted or very little sand.

Has anyone tried missing the ball on the inside? It works, the ball pops out beautifully. I have to do this as I always hit the ball otherwise.

you mentioned two ways to control the distance: 1. depth of sand you hit and 2. level of your swing, 9-3oclock or 10 to 2... which one is the correct way to control the distance?

A really great drill Danny.
I've developed the nasty habit of falling back ever so slightly on my bunker shots, sometimes with horrible consequences.
This drill works so well, I'm going use it on the course.

Wow! Tried 10 shots and the ball pops up like never before. Took less than 10 minutes to gain super confidence. Thanks Danny, with love from India.

What I did was get a massive container and fill it from sand at a beach. Took it home and place a ball in it and voila, a makeshift bunker that's several inches of the floor, making you compensate for its height with another similar container filled with sand to avoid inconsistencies.

TLDR: I didn't do this.

how do you deal with inconsistenies of sand depth/and quality? Some have very little sand, some have really heavy sand that is more like dirt, makes it so hard to be consistent.
