Beautiful exhausts - how did you paint them?

I did a comparison between AK3G, Ammo, Hataka and Lifecolour using early WWII RAF colours. Hataka sprayed well but it's colour tones were the least accurate of the 4. AK3G was best spraying and for colour. I've just got the RAF Early WWII set from ATOM. I already know that they spray very well and give a lovely finish, but looking at the colours in the bottle, they look way out to me. Then again as the two major colours are re-purposed ('brown' for dark earth and 'IJA Nakajima Green' for dark green) that's hardly surprising.

I sprayed Hataka acrylic paints with native thinner and with Vallejo airbrush thinner and result was ok, IMHO work with Vallejo thinner a few better and smoother. I agree with you Hataka has a problem with color accuracy and rendering ((

If you would use hot water from your coffee maker it cleans it better than any air brush cleaner.

I’m an old guy so I’m a big fan of the old smelly enamel paint. The biggest issue I have though with the new acrylic paints is the color it self. It does seem as though the research isn’t being done. A good friend of mine produces True North Precision Enamels and he researched official government paint chips from several countries for two years before he produced his first paint. They are very accurate from U.S. federal standard colors, German RLM colors, British naval colors…. The list goes on. I struggle with acrylics as it is I wish they could at least try to get the color correct. Great video as always sir you never disappoint

It's not one of the paints I would use. The orange line is Okay, but not my first choice.

Hey Chris, good job on the model. More importantly, good job with your girls. Remember if you want to tone down the garish nature of the colors, you can always use the old artist’s trick of adding a SMALL amount of complementary color. A color wheel is very useful for this, and is another great tool to have. Cheers.

Thanks for the review of the Hataka Red Line! I haven't tried them yet, but I have tried the Hataka Orange line Lacquer paints and liked the semi-gloss satin shine they gave. I've since moved away from them, as I found the paint chipped easily, even with a coat of primer down. The colors were not bright as you experienced with the Red line, but the colors were a little suspect to my eyes. I also noticed when I used Mr. Leveling thinner that the color sometimes would change hue in the airbrush if left for a few minutes. So you had to use it all right away or mix it up in the color cup when it separated.

I like their Blue Line ( normally for handbrush) more to airbrush than the red airbrush line

Really interesting video. Not a paint range I’ve heard of before learned a lot. 👍🏻

Thanks for the review. I am re-entering the hobby after a long sabbatical, and there are just to many paints on the market to get my " old skill and style of building back. The popular acrylics just art working well and I keep investing in new brands that aren't performing well either. I don't understand why people are so fascinated with Vallejo. Tamiya is not bad but doesn't thin down for spray . AK is my next attempt, after this I may go back to Enamels but everything is made acrylic. I don't mean to ramble , however I see some other comments that reflect my impression of today's paint choices. Oh , I've never had to use this black pre-season coat before either it seems more of a fad than effective and will distort the color balance.

Thanks for the test, really helpful.
I was considering Hataka in the past, because of their nice sets, but ultimately didn't buy the paints.
A future test video of Mr. Aqueous paints would be cool, I have heard lately that they are the best acrylics on the market.

Great video, really informative. I’m just getting back into airbrushing and I’m finding it confusing to choose paints. I like the MiG and Hataka sets as you get everything you need. Any others that I would be considering?
