Singapore Airlines Premium Economy is it worth the upgrade?

I picked up a SQ premium economy ticket from SFO-SIN for only US$695 for a flight last March on the 350-900ULR. I then spent extra for unlimited legroom in the first row (all the throne seats were taken). I'm 196cm tall, so I really need leg room for flights over 4-5 hours. I found the seats a little shallow and the calf rest to be useless. Also the IFE screen coming up from the seat was a little low. It was almost a 17 hour flight so it was an endurance as I woke up every hour or so.

I'm flying to Bangkok in November in EVA's PE. Is it worth twice the price of economy? Not is you are of average or below height. But at my height there isn't really a choice. Two years ago on a flight to Taipei I remember flying EVA's PE and it was fine, but burned into my mind was how miserable some larger passengers looked in economy.

I get sad when I see you not traveling in at least business class.

I am surprised you didn't "book the cook" on your premium economy flight.

I think it is , especially for any flight longer than 8 ish hours. I’m at the age where i will pay good money for a comfy seat and sleep

Just finished a trip where we took SQ round trip in PE from SFO-SIN. My answer as to whether it’s worth it? Honestly, no. In terms of the soft product (service, cuisine), it’s great. In terms of the hard product, for me, it was bad. I’m 6’2” tall and even with the increased seat pitch in PE, I suffered for almost 16 hours on the way to SIN and 15 hours on the return. Is it better than economy? Of course. But I will not be repeating the flight in PE. We have two future trips where we have a combination of points and paid business class tickets. The paid flight was a great deal at $3699 round trip.

In the future, if we’re flying PE to SE Asia, we’ll stick with JAL and ANA, both of which have very good PE seats. Plus, the stop in Japan gives us a chance tostretch out for a while before continuing.

Pretty uninspiring really.

Were the seat dimensions you gave at the start just for the a380 as im flying with sq from Gatwick on the a350 later this year

Don't get me wrong I fly sq often and love as it's our airline but when I fly Qantas and Cathay pe trust me sq is a sad case ...they are looking at upgrading their product by the end of this year or early next year...❤

Thanks for sharing, I'm excited to be flying Singapore Airlines for the first time in November, I'm going to stay in Economy Class though as its an A350-900 from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, so a very short flight for them!

My wife and I flew Singapore Airlines Premium Economy in July 2023 from Sydney to London and return. It was not good. The food was just ok not great and I chose book the cook. The calf and foot rest was totally useless for me being 6ft1 as it didn’t even touch my calves. The foot rest under the seat in front was ok. I had a window seat and would have been good to put a pillow against the wall to help with sleep but the gap between seat and wall was so far I would have ended up with back problems to reach it. Having extra room between the seats compared to economy made no difference when both people in front had their seats reclined. To get out I had to get my wife to stand up and still had to climb over her seat. I couldn’t sleep and had the worst jet lag I’ve ever had. We never received or was offered an amenities kit, but seeing what you got I’m glad we didn’t. My screen often stopped working too. The only good part was the crew, they were great. I don’t thinks it’s worth paying that much for premium economy over economy. I wouldn’t pay for premium again. Next year we’re flying back to Europe flying business class on emirates going over and Qatar on way back. Should be a lot better.

SQ premium is a scam to force you to pay extra when upgrading to business with points. I used to upgrade on my flights to Europe. SQ added a single row of premium seats between economy and business and there is never a single person in these seats.

If it fits within your budget the premium economy upgrade is that little bit of extra luxury for a long trip, ideal for a couple with a 2 4 2 seating configuration no hassle with a extra body next to you although economy is still great with Singapore airlines premium is just that little bit of extra comfort.

SQ is overpriced. They used to have the newest fleet in the industry and the cabin crew were great. For the past 5 yrs, the cabin has been patched work and the crew fake smile all the time

I just subscribed, I love Changi too. As a Aussie I know Mrs bucket. I think SIA keep the toilet very clean

Thank you for this very fair and comprehensive review. I've got a flight on the A380 to Germany soon and I can't wait to try out premium economy. I haven't flown with SQ for about 15 years so this should be interesting.

I know for a fact that I'm big sized enough to be uncomfortable in economy but pretty comfortable in premium economy seating.

You may also want to try out starlux which is Taiwans new airline. I had very good experiences with them on both economy and premium economy.

Hi, have you flown Qantas Premium economy and if so, how do you think this Singapore Airlines compares? To me, Qantas looks a little better.

Flew Singapore PE for my wedding and honeymoon and it was terrible. Never again. They didn’t even seat my husband and I together for one of the legs of the flight and we had no way to pre book the seats prior! Food is bad, seats are uncomfortable, service is poor. Don’t recommend!

That Premium Economy looks good. I guess it depends on your budget, the route, and the plane. Personally, I wouldn't mind the splurge once in a while and might even try to gamble with an upgrade, depending on the price. Great video. Thank you. What was that background song? Recent flight with Lufthansa.
PremEco is 2500 Euro vs 600 Euro Economy. So I can buy 4 Eco seats for one PremEco. I do not see the relationship here.

I wouldn’t fly premium economy at all with Singapore airlines very disappointed and the seats were very tight …I was happier in economy for the next leg 😂😂😂

We flew Singapore to Amsterdam and return Manchester to Singapore in premium economy on 3/9 & 10/10. Second time we have done this but I pay extra for the H & K seats which have great leg room and I can get up move around and stretch easily. I think the seats are bigger/ wider and I can sleep in them. Unfortunately have to do Brisbane to Singapore and Singapore Brisbane in economy as SA didn’t offer Premium on this leg. I hate it as we have someone else in the row plus I get the middle seat which is always crap on any flight.

Absolutely not. What a joke. It was no different to economy. The seat was slightly wider. There was a light attached to the top of the seat instead of ceiling and that’s about it. Food exactly the same as economy and shocking at that. Total rip off. I would have been more comfortable paying for exit row seat than this. Economy on the shortest leg of the flight was so cramped. Will not fly with them again in any class.
