I just bought a 2005 lotus Elise in nightfall blue with black interior and I will say I love everything about it. The shifter is odd though. I had a 2015 wrx before this and the stick in the Elise feels like it’s angled

Sounds strikingly similar to the focus svt I had as my first car, had a mild build on the engine, cams, pistons, fuel, ect. Didn't know many of the details as it was built by the owner before the last and much of the info was lost to him just forgetting and not having documentation but it was by far the most charismatic and intoxicating engine I've experienced in person. Not surprising as I'm pretty sure it was developed with cosworth's help.

As an Elise owner (2002 model) I can happily say they are fantastic to drive with unreal handling. I call them "roller skates" - just point and squirt in the direction you want to drive!

I have a 2002 toyota celica GTS and I gotta say this makes me want to go for a drive! while it does not sound as good as this elise, it does open up like you said after that 6200 rpm mark and feels like you have a turbo v6 pulling you

I bet this car drives like an old school Miata upgraded with body and and performance enhancements.

The 2ZZ-GE is a terrible engine. The VVTL-i is simply set up wrong. The mild cam is too mild and the hot cam is too hot. When the engine switches to the high lift/duration lobes, torque actually DROPS then pick up about 500~600 rpm later. What's worse is that the gearing is all wrong too. Shifting at the readline in the 1st two gears puts you into the zone where the torque drops off such that after every shift you bog for a bit then roar back to life. It's retarded; or at least the 7th gen Celica GT-S is that way. This engine is supposed to one-up the Honda VTEC engines of the 90s (specifically the B18C), but it turned out to be showing the world how the B18 could have gone wrong. One of the things people do is mod the VVTL-i cross over point to mitigate the torque valley problem.

Can confirm that this is the same motor in the Matrix XRS. I own the 2005 and it's such a joy to drive. I can't imagine it in a car that weighs 1,000 pounds less.

Some day i will either own an Vauxhall Speedster or an Lotus Elise from that generation. i know it for sure. They are the dream car thats in reach. The one u take youre beautiful wife with, in on a hot sommer day, into the mountain backroads with her hair waving all the time and u both have just the best time of youre life.

tbh the elise is like a yaris with balls. it got some muscle and did a cut and now its this small but fun as hell. got a 2007 yaris and i throw it around like a kit car constantly.

i have same engine in my 2001 mr2 spyder.
( depending on which engine / ecu you got the hp numbers varied 170-190 ish CRANK hp )

the lotus 2zz being the 190+ hp version.

i believe the vibe GT was the lowest of the bunch around 160-170 ( cant remember exactly and to lazy to google it right now lol )

the celica gtS 2zz / ecu was around the 180 ish CRANK hp mark. with a 8250 rev limiter and a 6200 rpm "lift" point.

the elise got a higher limiter ( 8400-8600 i believe ) and if i remember correctly a lower lift point as well..

Does this redline over 8,000. Your 1st gear launch shifted at like 8,500.

I love these cars. I daily drive the Alfa 4C and its in the same realm in terms of form factor but in a different flavor. I would own both if I could. This was my first dream car though. :)

A good friend of mine has one of these! I've done everything from drive it on the twisties to taking it 7 hours up to NJ for recall work. I can just feel the car watching this. Such an underrated machine
