What got me interested in auto locksmith is when I lost my only key for my jaguar xtype. They said they’d have to tow it then I’d have to buy two 1500$ keys then pay to cut and pay to program. Said be minimum 4500$
Called all locksmiths and said they could because jaguar won’t give the key code so I bought a programmer and aftermarket key and long story short they kept Fing up the key cut to try to get me to pay up…..ended up junking the car over a key 🤦‍♂️

Been working as a auto diagnostic tech for thirty years this might not be a bad idea for me . Especially since I do have a key cutting machine and a key programmer also few scanners. Looking for some freedom and spare time . Us auto techs don’t know what freedom is when working over 50 hours a week at a shop . Lol

You have some of the most amazing tutorials for this trade on the internet. I always thought keeping "insider secrets" was nonsense. Even if your tutorials got 200m views, locksmith's would still be in business constantly. Not everyone is going to invest a bunch of money in tools and books or even a license just to cut/program a key for themselves. And those that do would have to work very hard to turn that into a successful business.

I have done a lot of research in this field and I have come to the conclusion that I will need to spend between £25,000 - £50,000 just to get started for auto locksmith trade. I much rather stick with domestic locks as Yale keys have good profit in my area.
