This would’ve turned it into just full blown horror… bc it’s closer to reality

Laaaame, same ol same ol "Black man can't win" trope that ruined "Queen and Slim", "Boyz n the Hood" and even "Do the right thing" for me.

So glad that they chose the real ending.

This ending gives the perfect chance for the sequel, "Get Out...OF PRISON"

I love that they went with the ending they did. Plenty of horror movies worked great with dark endings (personally this is one reason I liked the first Insidious) but this is different given the subject matter as I think audiences are tired of seeing nonstop black misery. We prefer to see black triumph… well, as long as it feels hard-won as otherwise it can feel like pandering.

I think an applicable juxtaposition would be the difference in reception by female audiences between Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl, being back-to-back releases by the same director. The former, despite having an iconic female hero, was still basically an encyclopedia of the ways women are abused (including the hero herself) based on a book written by a man, whereas Gone Girl, despite being based on a book written by a woman, was essentially the polar opposite, but its blend of escapism and grimness was much more balanced in favor of the audience not feeling a weight on their soul when they left the theater.

The actual ending is so good because it makes this ending explicit. Peele makes the audience realize that the police showing up at the end isn't a good thing, that's how institutionalized racism works, and then it gives us the cathartic ending anyways that we were hoping for (the police ended up being the good guy).

This ending was as expected as Hillary winning the election, and the ending we got was as unexpected as Trump winning the election...

And by that I mean, literally! No, I'm seriously not kidding! The ending was changed from this to what we eventually saw (which had not even been conceived before November 2016, let alone written and shot) because of the outcome of the 2016 election!

Simply put, after Hillary lost, Jordan Peele felt his audience deserved a break, so he re-wrote the ending to have Rod show up and Chris get rescued! Until the election, however, most of the movie had already been shot (including this scene), and it was set in the plans that it would end this way - then the election happened!

And it's perfectly fitting too! Something unrealistic happened in real life (that made his audience sad) so Peele had something arguably less unrealistic happen in the movie (to make his audience happy)! Yes, the ending we got may have been "the less realistic one," but without a doubt, it's still more realistic than the real-life event that got it written in the first place!

The judge being in the order would have been interesting. The alternate ending can’t ignore Hudson with his scull in the bucket and half the family wearing scrubs.

There was no one there to clean up any of the evidence tho right? So the police could easily back up Chris's story with:
-The medical room
-Dude with his skull cut open + the father and son are in scrubs
-Video tape explaining the whole backstory made by the dude with his skull open
etc.

This was a better ending, way more realistic and fitting. Also, I don't get the "audience is scared it would be the cops because of society" thing, if they saw a white dude in the exact same spot he would have been arrested just the same.

This ending works thematically where he escapes from one point “prison” only to land in an actual prison. Very interesting.

Although, I think experientially, this ending gives a bit of whiplash. Get Out is about the perceived superiority of black peoples being racist, which is technically quite a different topic from systemic racism in law enforcement.

In short, I think the original ending is a lot better.

the original ending is way better because it brings some reliev to a character that has suffered injustice the whole movie. Some movies have good things happening but with a bad turn, some will do the opposite. But bad things with bad ending is such a heavy combination

I mean if the police didn’t arrest him and believed him that’d be pretty alarming, especially considering he was just caught strangling somebody, now as far as being found guilty that’d be another story.

I hate all these white comments here saying “this is what I expected when the cops showed up” like it’s funny.

Maybe start devoting your time to ensuring this kind of ending could never happen in your kid’s lifetime. People who have been arrested for false crimes are just as real as this story can feel.

Everyone saying "this ending says a lot about society" when it fucking does not. If a white guy was caught seemingly MURDERING his girlfriend after MURDERING her entire family and all the evidence burning down, he would have been locked up. Says absolutely nothing about race.

Who called the police?

There would need to be more explaining of that and other things in this ending even if...yes...this is the far more realistic ending.

One plot hole for instance would be that Rod knew about the Hayworth dude so he would've directed investigations towards that lead if nothing else. That's also why the girl looking for the next victim in the NCAA prospects wouldn't work. They would have to choose people that nobody would come looking for. That would have too much attention. But hey...nitpicking....I know. That isn't the point of this.

i think a lot of people in these comments are missing the point of this alternate ending. “he wouldn’t have gone to prison, there was so much evidence proving it was self-defense” yes, there was a ton of evidence that should theoretically free him, but him going to prison is a commentary on how racially biased the criminal justice system is. it is supposed to make you upset, because you know he didn’t do anything wrong.
