😂😂🙈 now i know why you were so sweaty. Not from watching cops
ОтветитьJust did my cam/lifters at 89k. Mine cam out looking brand new.
ОтветитьApparently, a hellcat oil pump that has a lot more volume does wonders with those Hemis.
ОтветитьMaybe the guy who invented the red locking tabs, instead of getting the McNuggets he ordered from McDonald’s he’ll get…. Piston McNuggets.
ОтветитьChange the oil and blow the carbon out now and then.
ОтветитьAren't those rocker shafts supposed to have springs and washers on them to keep the rockers properly positioned? Kinda like a 440.
ОтветитьGot a 06, 5.7 with 170k miles. Runs like a top. Gotta add zinc.
ОтветитьThat FB in the background 😮💨😮💨😮💨
ОтветитьI believe the reason for the lifter failure issues is because of the thin weight oil being used. Remember the early 3rd gen Hemi did not have this problem. It had MDS And same cam location, recommended 5w-20 vs 0w-40 now. Also keep in mind this problem is present on GM AFM LS Engines and also Ford’s new 7.3L pushrod engine. All of which call for thin weight oils and long intervals.
I do agree avoiding Idle time is ideal.
Overall a simple reliable design
Bro just hit a dipstick pr
ОтветитьCouldn't rely on a Chrysler in the past and still can't rely on them today...........
ОтветитьSo I got an idea, I send you a 300k + mile 2012 is250 motor to dismantle with some money and it exchange you give me a new lower mileage motor 😅
ОтветитьIm surprised if idle is a problem there is no idle setting to raise the rpms like a lot of sprinter vans have as they dont like to be idled also
ОтветитьWhat are you going to do when Harbor Freight changes the color of the handle from "blue"?
ОтветитьIf low idle is the cause, I am still mystified why the majority of lifter failures occur on #5 cylinder. Why wouldn't all show signs of wear?
ОтветитьNotorious hemi tick
ОтветитьIs this block piston and crank still for sail and if how much?
ОтветитьThat dipstick removal was FAR too easy... STAGED!!!
ОтветитьDid the previous owner never change oil...? So dirty, so worn, what a waste.
ОтветитьCome on do those push ups again
ОтветитьThis episode actually made this grumpy guy laugh out loud a couple times. Thank you!!! Good stuff as always sir 😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьThat big bar has some nice pop resonance.
ОтветитьI've never had good luck with used engines in the past (80's-90's). They were always junk, even the ones that ran OK.
ОтветитьChrysler & GM have used the same firing order on their V8s since at least the 50s, with #1, 3, 5, and 7 being on the driver's side.
ОтветитьThis looks like a classic case of high idle time on a Hemi. If you avoid idling the engine, the lifter issues are mostly non-existent. As someone else rightly pointed out, low oil pressure on the top end at idle is the culprit. There is a "fix" that is preventative. The oil pump from the 6.2L Hemi can be used to generate higher oil pressure as the gear has more teeth to generate more pressure across the RPM range. It is also a direct bolt on swap. Otherwise the best course of action is to avoid idle. Personally, I have this exact engine in my 2015 Ram 1500 Limited. I have not done the oil pump swap, but I only let the engine warm up for no more than 5min before I start driving, and I often shut it off in drive-thrus or anything longer than a stop light. Hope this helps any owners out there!
ОтветитьIf you pick up one of those used, its usually just a good idea to pull the heads, lifters and cam, and replace the cam, lifters, and oil pump for $2000 for stock stuff or you can spend about the same on some comp cams stuff and spend a little more money on a MDS delete, then you have a motor with some punch and you dont have to worry about it eating its cam if it hasnt already.
Ответитьmakes me wonder if they drained the oil, found the glitter and sent it back
Ответитьseems like poor oil pump pressure design for low revs ect , anyway like the tear downs ect
ОтветитьLove this channel. Here for the support.
ОтветитьBEST DIPSTICK REMOVAL EVER!!!
Ответитьstill have to suggest threading the headbolts back into the bottom holes of the block deck to catch the pistons when tapping the out.
ОтветитьI’d like to see a Ford 7.3 Godzilla on the channel, I know a few had some cam problems.
ОтветитьThe only thing missing from your dipstick removal prep is a set of 72 stone steps...
Ответить"Whoever invented these red locking tabs, I hope McDonald's gets your order wrong." 😂. Funniest comment I have heard in a while. I imagine anyone who has had to fight those stupid things had to have gotten a laugh out of that.
ОтветитьIf the engine had cam wear and metal got cycled through the engine that could be a reason why
ОтветитьMy 2005 5.7 L Ram had 300k miles
on the clock when I donated it off. It’s still running fine. Good synthetic
oil and 99% highway miles probably is why it lasted me so long 😃
Not sure common these motors are in the states or how often they fail, but I would like to see a Toyota 1vd-ftv on the channel or maybe even a 1hd-fte. Fairly popular motors here in Australia
ОтветитьNot to impressed when you make out your being a good guy giving the part’s your employee needs for a project and then proceeding to wreck the parts he needs
ОтветитьHey Eric @I Do Cars good vid as usual. I saw on another channel that Jegs makes a drainpan that fits right over the bottom legs of the engine stand. I know you're always fighting w\ that black plastic mortar mixing 'pan' to catch the dripping fluids🛢️⛽💦 Just thought you like something like that so you're not struggling with drain pans & oil spills all over to clean up always! 😄🤔👍👌🛠️🔧⚡⚠️🔨📏🗜️🔩⛓️🚚🚗😄🍻
ОтветитьOn mine, there’s a little rings that go up against it to hold it in place
ОтветитьWould that intake fit on a 2011 dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi my runner control is bad
ОтветитьWith the quality of engine oil available today, there is ZERO excuse for the amount of gold varnish and black sludge in that thing. Either the cheapest convenience store oil, way over-extended oil changes, or both. My personal Hemi has zero gold varnish nearly 100k miles, and I’ve seen others clean as new at much higher mileage.
ОтветитьI can't believe I'm a day late. I ruined my Saturday night.
ОтветитьSomewhere in the 2000’s the industry completely forgot how to make decent cams and lifters. Flat tappet, roller, aftermarket, OEM, LS, HEMI….. they all fail way more than a good old 1990s 5.2/5.9 Magnum roller cam and lifter set or a 1960s/70s flat tappet SRT from any engine (almost never, except that one run of smallblock Chevies in the late 70s with a batch of bad cams)
ОтветитьThis was a funny teardown! Thank you Eric! 👍
Ответитьchange ur oil!!! change ur oil!!!!!
ОтветитьI kept saying "he's so avoiding that dipstick"
ОтветитьIdle time kills these and the 6.4s. Especially police and ambulance motors. Oil pressure at idle is too low for the lifters and cam to survive. It's a defect that was never acknowledged.
