My first ocean voyage was a baptism of fire, we went out of the Firth Of Forth, near Edinburgh Scotland into the North Sea in a force 10 gale, I honestly thought we would perish it was so bad. The instant you turn your back on the sea, or underestimate her in any way, she’ll put you down. Fair winds and following seas to all sailors everywhere, be safe and remember; tomorrow is promised to no man. 🇺🇸⚓️🙏💪👊

As a 3 year old crossing the ocean on a small freighter, I can still remember the horrific waves and the captain ordering everybody to go to one side of the ship as it listed. And I can remember lying on the deck in troop's quarters (1945) when the waves bounced the ship so hard I left the deck (in that position) 6 inches. The ocean scares me.

My Dad was a merchant marine in the 50s. They were in s atorm in the North Sea and he said that those were the highest waves he ever saw. It was daylight and the waves erere veryvery tall and very far apart. They would slike down the backside of one and see the next one coming seeming to get bigger and bigger. About halfway through the storm the shio developed a crack in its hull. The storm continued for another two days. He said it was the most scared he had ever been in his life.

My worst nightmare is alling overboard then being adrift at sea, not knowing whether you were going to get eaten or drown. Imagine that ocean once nighttime arrives and it's pitch black. Respect for mother nature. I don't think there's anything more merciless than the ocean

that little boat at 6 minutes in is amazing! Unsinkable?

My mothers side of the family came by ship from the Netherlands in the years around 1910, a journey of 6-8 days. Little wonder many missed their homeland, but were never able to return for a visit (they passed long before the days of air travel).

Man it's crazy people did this in wooden boats with no idea where land might be or what kind of weather was lurking.

Who is filming the boat rolling backwards in the wave and disappearing? It's a movie! The video is not extreme enough for another boat to film. And a helicopter/airplane doesn't go out in that kind of weather.
