Would the water have been as big of a problem when the mine was in use? Likely there would have been pumps at points, but I believe if they could ever get away with natural drainage they did so simply from a cost perspective. A lot of the pumps that did get used were not driven by air or steam but water-wheels--which I suppose was just common sense!
As it now stands a lot of those deeper sections seemed to be dammed up behind collapses. Is it a cost/manpower issue that leads to them not being cleared for these tours or is it to prevent the flood of highly toxic water than would wash out into the becks and cloughs?
thy do not do any of the brick work at all in American mines that i have seen
ОтветитьI thank you for enduring the puckering, the shrinkage, and the fearful turtles resulting from wandering through flooded workings. I love the stonework. I love the colors. And that fungi! Really beautiful show, Stephen.
