Nice video… I’m Jonesin’ to see an 04’ Limited… Separate thought: if I’m not mistaken, I saw you fueling with 87 Octane gas… have you ever done a video on what gas grade is optimal for the Tacoma? Do you really get a benefit from arguably ‘cleaner fuel’? I don’t care what the manual says, some folks swear they get better mileage and a cleaner injection system benefit on the long run. Curious about your thoughts…

I'm pleasantly surprised that you still haven't traded it in. You always lose money when you trade in a vehicle. So why even bother trading it in. Just because something new comes out doesn't mean it's better

As far as class wars, I think just having a Tacoma puts you in a class above those with the Chevy/GMC, Ford, and other midsize trucks that are showing up. As far as among Tacoma's, the only reason I have gone with a newer model is for newer tech and options that I would like. I still stick with Toyota though.

I can understand some wanting to get the 4th Gen Tacoma. Afterall, it is a massive redesign. Toyota known for keeping designs in production for much longer than their competitors. That is one of the reasons why their cars and trucks are so reliable. Proven designs and years of refinement. I'm confident that the new truck will be excellent. But, several reasons why it might make financial sense to wait for a few years. New designs are fraught with design flaws that don't surface until the real word testing by customers. Add to that the limited supply<<< high demand for the new truck. Early adopters will likely be paying MSRP + Premiums until the factory ramps up to full speed. Lastly, you like many of us, have a fine truck to drive. You have had your truck for a year, but only 2,000 miles. I know, your situation is unique. But, whether 2,000 or 20,000 or 100,000 miles, the Tacoma is going to keep on rolling for years. Maybe just me, but I would much rather see a pristine 10 year old truck that has been lovingly cared for.

Having the latest body style has always been a status thing. It screams you have a new vehicle. Luckily, with Tacomas even the older ones are very cool if they are well cared for and tastefully modded. One day my 2022 will be one of them.

The Taco may have the potential for 300k-500k (like most Toyotas), however, the turbo in the '24 DOES NOT! When that turbo dumps out at around 100k, you can spend a fortune to replace it, or you're just stuck with a rather heavy truck being pulled around by a paltry 4 cylinder. Like you said, they can keep the '24 👎

Aloha Rob. The Auto Market is volatile right now as many dealerships are having a difficult time to sell off their current inventory which sat in their lots for more than 5-months. This is why many consumers are retaining their current vehicle to not lose any monies as far as common sense in the financial process. Yet, you point out great reasons to the logistics itself.

I have a good one for you Rob, i don't care about the next best thing at all. I drive my 1996 buick roadmaster, it's got some rust on the rear quarters and doesn't look pretty anymore, but it has only 132.000 klm,s on it and it is a beautiful riding car. I'm 63 years old , most new cars or trucks don't cruise the highways or city streets like this boat. So if people need that statis symbol to look good ,well let them do there own thing. Me if i want to buy a new $100.000 plus dollars on a vehicle that would give me the same ride , i could and pay cash for it because i don't waste all my money on the newest and supposedly best thing on the market. It's a sad thing that so many people are in so much debt just to look good.

Rob how are you supposed to know what another driver is doing when that driver doesn't know what they're doing, you always have to be ready for the unexpected. To many drivers on our roads today aren't from our country recently. They are bringing there bad habits from wherever they came from, I live in Canada and shake my head at the stupidity that I'm seeing on our roads, i sometimes get to the point where I don't want to drive anymore because my blood pressure spikes because of these inept individuals.

@iq6840
@iq6840 - 02.02.2024 20:19

Listen man. I'm a working class guy who's made A LOT of money. More than I ever expected to do to circumstance. I live in a lower middle class neighborhood in a paid off house and I've had an early gen 2 Tacoma a 2007 that I just traded in in December for the last of the gen 3. So roughly 15 years with relatively no issues, a lot of miles, one water pump, one set of full front brakes including calipers, and one set of new drums, a couple power window switches. The 07 had a bad wheel bearing from the factory and one door that was misaligned and they were pretty sure it was the transport guy that made a booboo, and they fixed both asap when new. So I traded it in perfect running order at 290,000 miles, I changed all diff and tranny and transfer case fluids every 40k miles and kept it clean, and at year 3 I had it undercoated with some type of oil that seemed to hold up great(some type of marine grease) my buddy did it. I like the 2023 because it's new, and they got rid of the taco lean. The transmission isn't as bad as people say, maybe earlier gen 3s weren't as updated by the software but it's ok and the 3.5 has a bit more pep to it but with the way they have it computer modulated you just have to lean into the peddle a bit more but it's DEFINATELY there and is a bit more powerful than the 4.0. build quality is still good, no rattles and no whines from the differential. The auto lsd works GREAT if you are kinda wondering if you do or don't need 4 wheels drive, so when this are slushy and I'm taking a short trip I turn it on and it's absolutely wonderful. Also on my gen 2 I did stock coils and shocks at 100k. This summer I'll have my buddy grease the frame and stuff. The ride and handling is nicer on the gen 3. I don't like lifts and all that stuff like I did when I was younger, I like to keep the factory geometry but I got the SR with v6 and 4by4 so I can pick my 16 inch wheels. Only downfall to the truck is stock tires(they aren't bad but not great) so I'll put 30k on em then I'll order up some nicer wheels and throw on some factory size wildpeaks! But I will not throw just toss tires for new ones, I'll grab 30k miles off them. I like mid sized trucks because it's easy to bee bop around town. My work trucks are a ton of abuse, I use f450s, my last one had a v10 and had 450,000 miles, just kept it clean and fluids replaced every 40k and oil changed every 4k. These Ford 450s are built like tanks they have a little extra to the frames and steering components than the 350s and 250s. I LOVE them it's what I used everyday Monday through Friday and some Saturdays. I've had other makes of heavy duty work trucks and Ford is bar none the best of the bunch. At the same time I bought the Tacoma I was dealing with my fleet salesman at ford and bought two new f450 regular cabs with the detuned version of the power stroke for longevity, and I absolutely love the trucks. I guess my point being is off topic from the Tacoma, but if you do have a need for a heavy duty truck and have a business, then buy from a Ford fleet dealer, because of you have an issue and bring it in they KNOW they are dealing with time and money, and they HUSTLE to get what you need. Just a point I had to make. So on the weekends I do love having a little truck I can zing around in. They really aren't so little anymore I bet they are comparable in size to a early 90s whatever brand 150.or 1500.

I own a 2021 TRD Sport and I think the cab is too small. I’m 5-11 and even with side steps it’s hard to get into the drivers seat. It’s not that comfortable after I get into the seat. I have the technology package and even with a power seat I can’t seem to get very comfortable. I bought and installed Seat Jackers and they helped a little but not much. The truck is very bouncy off road with the short wheelbase and rear leaf springs. That said I haven’t needed any repairs and the 4X4 system works flawless. It does everything it’s supposed to do but I’m really looking forward to sitting in the 2024 and driving one. If I’m not comfortable in it or don’t like the ride I’ll look into getting the new Tundra.

Rob I have to say that I’ve been feeling the same way as you. I’ve been going back and forth that I’m going to get a 2025 Tacoma and I ask myself WHY? My present 2023 trd sport is paid off and I love the truck. I have been buying a new Tacoma every two years for the past ten years….. keeping all of them stock. I feel like you do…. I’m not going to put out well over 50k for another sport. I’m thinking of just keeping my 23 and putting on new wheels, wild peaks, grill and a slight lift for bigger tires. I’m also partial to the Cement and my current lava rock …. Both colors that are no longer available. So I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m keeping what I’ve got…. At least for now.

If you have the cash and your current vehicle runs fine, then it would make more sense to invest that cash in order to have that cash work for you in the form of dividends and asset appreciation instead of buying a new car that depreciates. It's not how much you make, but it's how much you keep!!!
