When we’re in an inferior position like bottom mount, our main objective is to stay safe. And one of the best ways to safe is to use your forearm and block against your partner’s hip so they cannot get a stronger control of your neck and shoulders and then go for a high mount armbar. Now, once I’m blocking my partner’s hip with my right forearm, I want to try and do the Dorsal Fin escape. It’s called the Dorsal Fin because a see the point of my right elbow like the dorsal fin of a shark; and thus, I need to stick my right elbow up to the sky. Plus, I want to push with my right elbow while I get up onto my left hand; and then, stand up. The Dorsal Fin escape is a fantastic escape that not only teaches you proper hand positioning from bottom mount; but, it’s a strong escape that can lead to additional escapes even if it fails.
