This is basically the simplest case for computer vision. Known, controlled space, you're tracking a literal ball that is distinctly coloured, not much in the way of obstruction. Pretty cool stuff nonetheless

The more surprising thing is, this sports is called cricket in America and not some made up Americanised name just to confuse the rest of the world but in reality making a fool of themselves

Why not just put a sensor into the ball and another sensor into the stumps and then the sensors speak to each other and relay the info to the camera and this will be far more accurate .

Is AI truly and really Artificial Intelligence.

The Artificial component is easy, if it isn't contained, retained or obtained by a living body, then yes it is Artificial.

Intelligence, is it truly intelligent? At its base the process is simply a huge, ever increasing database, couple to simple If Then statements. To be intelligent must it not have original thoughts of its own originating of its own violation?

Simply, does the machine and the program ask the question on its own? Does AI take the data that it has accumulated, recognize a need, understand the constraints, then work outside of the box to come to a previously unknown result?

In my estimation AI is an amazing system that processes an astounding amount of scenarios in a very quick and highly accurate manner. A powerful tool beyond the understanding of most people.

Context for non cricket fans: the bowler is supposed to to hit the wickets (which is one of many way to dismiss the batsman). The batsman is supposed to defend the 3 sticks (or hit it to run for points) so the ball doesn't hit the wickets. But he is only supposed to use his bat, not any part of his body. There are no fouls lije football if the ball hits the body the ball wouldn't have it the wickets had his body not interfered, but if it does and the umpire think that it would have hit the wickets then the batsman is out. The umpire/referee must predict the trajectory and thats where many errors occured resulting in controversial decisions. The DRS system tries to mitigate this problem.
