Resident Evil 8 Village DLC (FULL GAME)

I feel that dlc set up for 2 potential parts for re9. The first one is due to the intro of Rose, she could be the main character in re9. Think of this dlc as her origin story. The second one is more if they set this up right, it could set Ethan up to be an antagonist. But it has to be set up damn near perfect to make that work.

Goodness, that first segment in the dungeons reminded me of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. THOSE WERE SOME GREAT TIMES!

It's WEIRD seeing The Duke being all evil and scary like this, though. Why is he imprisoning, torturing, and brutally murdering girls for sport--while being Jabba the Hut level creepy on them? (Who cares if they are mold clones? They are sentient and can clearly express fear and pain...) It's like he went full on 5th Lord here, which was supposed to be his original role in RE: 8. Just what on Earth happened to him in those last 16 years?! Did he want Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters out of the way just so that he could take over Castle Dimitrescu, as Duke Dimitrescu, in their place? That's a yikes, because the place is in absolute shambles. The bloody-goop mold is everywhere, and he's controlling it! At least when the place was ran by the Dimitrescu Family, they kept the place neat for the most part. Other than the, uh.. dungeons and cellars...

But as bittersweet as this all is--it is good to be back at the castle. It was one of my favorite settings, and it looks frightful as ever. <3

(EDIT: My bad, game! I found out that this was not the REAL Duke--but a combination of Miranda's interpretation of him, Miranda using him to "test" the Rose Clones, and Rose's identity anxiety. And thank god for that explanation. I was so worried about this "dark future".)

The one thing I can’t stand in this game is how Rose runs.

I can't help but hope, against the odds, Capcom diverges from the Winterses. Ethan and Rose are okay, sure, but they're too normal (somehow!). I dunno why, they're moldmen, but still they're vanilla. You could say that, at the start of the Resi series, Jill and Leon and co were all also normal people. But as the series has become the monolith it is, they have earned a superhero celebrity status. Ethan gave off a "random citizen in a superhero film" vibe, which was interesting to see, and gave us perspective on just how badly people's lives have been ruined by Umbrella et al. But they killed him off because it isn't a sustainable storyline

And sure Rose has powers but, she's bland. I feel the same as Jack, she's got ordinary problems and is too young to be relatable to most gamers. If they age her up into a grizzled STARS type, and in the next game have her lead the next wave of Jills and Leons and Chrises and Claires while under guidance from all these characters, I could see Capcom with a way to potentially send off all these old farts -- they're literally all going to be in their early 60s by the time of this DLC -- and crown the new faces of the franchise.

But likeability is a huge issue. It's part of the reason the new Star Wars films struck a nerve with many people: brash newcomers pushing out beloved icons, and with often unearned confidence and Mary Sue/Gary Stu abilities. So this could be tricky.

Lol Capcom strives so hard to make Ethan remain faceless, it's almost like when a TV show has to use a double for an actor and they frame their shots so you never see their face. It's hilarious. Poor Ethan
