The kind of job that would easy to learn to HATE!!
ОтветитьYoure doing a far better job at doing repairs than many mechanics ive saw. Many mechanics will just say it came in that way. Even though they themselves broke it. Which is why I take photos before leaving the dealer.
ОтветитьNice repair! Enjoyed the video, even simple repairs are great to watch
ОтветитьI've rebuilt tumblers before. I actually like that job. It's fiddly and mindless. I can watch videos while doling it. LOL
ОтветитьGood job Ray I learned something from you again
ОтветитьWhen are you going to finish the floor? Just curious.
ОтветитьYou surprised me Ray. I worked at GM dealerships for many years doing 15a work. I was the only one there who could re-key lock cylinders. Your knowledge is really vast. You do it all! Heavy line, brakes, driveability etc. You are a rare breed. BTW I love seeing young families doing well.
ОтветитьExcellent video on something I had not seen or done before (and I believe that is true for most people). Thanks for recording, editing and posting your videos, I know it is a lot of work and I really appreciate it!
ОтветитьWhy did I hear banjos in the background during the intro?
ОтветитьThe content is very good
ОтветитьWould of covered the tumblers in grease and NOT put them in dry like you did. Rubbing them with grease after installing them will not get them covered and well lubricated. In saying that it will probably outlast the vehicle.👍
ОтветитьGreat tutorial!
Ответитьkroil best penetrating oil there is you won't believe it
Ответитьi have an old jeep yj. my ignition/key was worn and the key could slide out before the ignition was off. i had a new key made at the home depot on the "scan" key machine and it cut the new key back to the correct size. the new key works great and my ignition didnt have to be replaced.
ОтветитьLove seeing the process of repairing the tumbler! Are you sure it wasn't the lock module behind the tumbler that came out that is binding though?
ОтветитьIt was interesting but, my Ram 1500 does not have a key. The fob turns the ignition switch. No key cutting is necessary. Just programming the fob. And if you look online, replacement fobs can be obtained for about 7 dollars each.
ОтветитьGreat video, just learned how to rebuild ignition key lock
ОтветитьIn the motorcycle world we have a similar issue with keys jamming up in the barrel, baring in mind that ours are exposed to the elements ( it rains a lot in England ) its probably twice as bad as a car. To fix the the problem we run a graphite pencil up and down the key and slot it in and out and repeat the application as many time as necessary. It works brilliantly and frees up lock. As young engineer I was told never put any lubricant down the barrel or your asking for trouble. Motorcycle locks can mega-expensive and are often a pain in the butt to remove having been fitted with sheer-bolts 🤨
ОтветитьRay your videos take me back to when I worked as an automotive mechanic. You remind me of the good old days. I think your channel has been better since you opened your own shop. Keep it up and keep supper Dave he’s A good egg. I hope the new guy works out for you all
ОтветитьOne of the more interesting video I have seen. Nice job.
ОтветитьRay I have never done anything like this. I have learned something new today. Thank you
ОтветитьHey Ray, ¿por que no compras unas tijeras multiusos para tenerla ahí en tu banco de trabajo y no batallar para abrir las cosas?. De paso compra otras para Lauren , ya las usará en la oficina o en la cocina.
Hey Ray, why don't you buy some multi-purpose scissors so you can keep them on your workbench and not have to struggle to open things? While you're at it, buy some for Lauren, she'll use them in the office or in the kitchen.

A series of videos huh? So the jeep is actually a project jeep? Surprise! Every jeep is a project jeep.
ОтветитьI’ve only ever done a tumbler replacement once on a Ford. The barrel came generic with all the locking pins the same length, until you installed the key and filed down the pins flush with the barrel. Same basic technology and much easier to do than being a watch maker!
OH, and I think Dave was on the other end of that screwdriver! 😅
Awesome,amazing and astounding
I would never do this because we always got a complete lock cylinder.Much higher success rate- especially if the only parts your parts guys have is a damned open box
Yes,you'll have a different key for the ignition and most of the time you're better off because of the mathematics- that lock has been operated maybe 30, or 40 thousand times
and could very well seize up again.
SO if you return the open box with the driver, what do you do when there's no parts for a week or more? We've all faced that scenario.Ray powered thru it.
You really shouldn't have read out the code for the customer's key on a video seen by a hundred thousand people. That's all someone needs to make another key. The original binding key cylinder might have just needed some lube.
ОтветитьEd Vance's guy here: Remember, the parts stores work for YOU. I've had many occasion to delivery credits to shops because of incorrect/damaged/opened box parts.
Ответитьi personal think that you should leave the auto locks to locksmiths. thats taking food off their table.
ОтветитьJ- JUST
E- EVERYONE
E- ELSE'S
P- PARTS
Why does it feel illegal to watch this video? 😅
ОтветитьHey Ray!!!! 🎉 Take a vacation, you deserve it my friend. You and the little lady should visit Beautiful East Texas. Have a grand ole’ time and, well, since your hear, maybe fix a water leak on the back passenger door of my BMW 😊
ОтветитьNext @Lockpickinglawyer april fools day collab? Anyone?
ОтветитьClearly you've never seen gone in 60 seconds.... lol
ОтветитьAs a locksmith and watching it after work i felt like i worked 9 hours. Losing that spring gave me ptsd flashbacks
Ps. Please do a chevy 10 cut ignition. Those are fun.
3133434... The internet now knows the key cut code for the jeep with the following plate "CG96DK"...
Ray... i know you're well meaning showing us the entire process, but you may have shown too much.
On those types of keys on chrysler's, you have to push the key in the tumbler. And then turn it at the same time. That's why it's feeling bad. It's actually a bad design.
ОтветитьGreat educational video! I cant think of a better video that ive seen that was done on this topic!
ОтветитьWhatever you put your hands on you usually fix it you did a good job with that key
ОтветитьLOVED this one - not something I've ever seen on anyone else's mechanic's channel!
ОтветитьFirst-class
ОтветитьA kit like that should be no returns
If the box has been opened, you have no idea what parts are missing if any.
Back in the 80's I started working for a Automotive Supply Co. We sold key blanks, cylinders, etc....I had to learn how to do this. The thing that blew me away, Briggs and Stratton made all Domestic Vehicles ignition keys and parts. Who'd a thunk
