I gave my two week’s notice during my break . I put my letter on her laptop and she wouldn’t speak to me for those two weeks . When you give two weeks you are in charge ! I was in charge of my happiness: I quit and I found a job paying me way better ! My former job is past and my present one is my future . I have already done things I couldn’t afford it had I still been working for my previous one . Trust your gut feelings !

At will employment. You can give no notice. Especially, if you see them show people the door the day they resign.

Your employer make you sign a paper indicating the position is at will, so why should we give our employer a two-week notice when they could fire us in 1 minute

Old Employer: can you stay longer?
Me: Will I be compensated?
Old Employer: silence
Me: That's what I thought.

There seems to be some confusion over the two weeks notice.

Yes, overall, it benefits the employers more than the employee. Employers are still free to fire you on the spot after you give your two weeks. However, I don't think bosses are as trigger happy with firing people instantly than we think; stuff like that is saved for egregious stuff like ruining expensive equipment. Firing people requires a lot of paperwork, approval from different parties, time, etc. Firing someone after they gave their two weeks notice runs a big risk of pissing off the rest of the team. They now will have more work to do while you look for a replacement and they will probably think "why should I put in a two weeks notice after that?"

Contrary to popular belief, companies DO give notice you're fired, just via subtle hints. The most common way companies quiet fire people is via PIPs (performance improvement plans).

Generally speaking. if you've been at a job for a while and the relationship was decent enough give the two weeks notice. When we talking about burning bridges, most of the time we mean the ability to put a job on your resume than actually going back to that job. If you put a job where you didn't give a two weeks notice on your resume, you run the risk of a new employer calling them and being told you're not eligible for rehire. If you were at the job for a while you now have a job gap you have to dance around.

With all that said, there are times you should NOT give a two weeks notice:

1. You were at a job for less than 90 days. This usually happens of the job is super toxic or it was a pitstop to another job. You wouldn't put a job you were at for month on your resume and it's very unlikely they'd rehire you even with a two weeks notice.

2. The company is doing something illegal/immoral. Would you want your name assoscisted with Enron? Woukd you give two weeks to an employer who sexually harrassed you?

3. You were put on a PIP. As mentioned earlier, this the company's way of giving you notice you're being fired.

Don't give notice, they won't give you notice if they want to fire you. I know, unpopular opinion, but it reality!

I have to give notice to a toxic boss on Monday. I'm terrified but know I have to do this. She probably won't talk to me for 2 weeks and will be gossiping behind my back (that's what she does, and the reason I'm leaving). Wish me luck! 😩

My employer was terrible, he micromanaged me, didnt give me the tools to do my job properly, he would assign me to a new project every week so I couldnt learn any project well enough to do my job well... he didnt even give me my conditions of employment or contract even after 4 months.

Well since I didnt have a contract or anything I just sent him a message and told him I was resigning and returned company property. I'm an engineer with many years of experience so I found another job almost immediately after resigning.

My point is, if your boss is so unprofessional that he cant even give you the right paperwork even after months of working there then you dont owe him notice. Treat them the way they treat you.

But what about 6:
You tell your boss that you are looking elsewhere as for some reason they REFUSE to give you any real responsibility, including the ones you were interviewed for.

You get offered the new job and your boss says they want the full notice from you and in return they completely ignore you for your notice period.

Thoughts?

I gave two weeks notice at my last two jobs. Both employers retaliated, and they just removed me from the schedule entirely. No counter offer to entice me to stay. Just complete removal from the schedule with all remaining hours taken away.

Just interviewed for a new job and got it. My current toxic job is draining my soul, I’ve only been there 3 months. I don’t have enough work to do and they complain to me about it; but do not have more work to give.(Dental.) I have become the office scapegoat.😮I’ll save them the money for my two weeks pay and leave immediately. Kindness counts!😂

You can offer the two weeks, but the truth is most of the time they don’t want you to for various different reasons. Especially in the sales industry bc they think that you’re going to somehow steal clients. Very simple process. Try your best to stay professional and keep it classy. I told my old employer that I wasn’t actively looking for another position (that was a lie lol) but another opportunity fell into my lap, and the offer was way too good to pass up so I am officially putting in my two weeks. Very easy process. Don’t overthink it people.
