Red Sanders died 8/14/58 and the Oklahoma-Duke Orange Bowl game was played 1/1/58.. The two point conversion rule was adopted for the 1958 season. So this has to have been shown between the end of the 1957 season and the 1958 season, presumably before Sander's death.
ОтветитьAt the time, the consensus of coaches was like that of the 1st interviewed on the subject, i.e. that one would usually go for 2, and go for 1 point only when that would put you in the lead. However, it soon turned out in college like that of the 2nd interviewed coach, where a team scoring late in the game would go for 2 instead of playing to tie, and otherwise go for 1. In the AFL, where FGs were more common, frequently producing 6 points from two of them, the 2 point conversion was used almost exclusively to tie the score.
