100%, with my studio headphones. Thanks a lot! This video prooved the value in higher rank basses to me. Nice to have lower range for beginners and such quality but still - as the skill grows your money for equipment goes to... :D :D

I've no idea which one is which, all I know is that #1 is the only one which doesn't sound like you wrapped the speaker in a wool blanket.
edit: Well, fuck, seems that sound comes with a price.

I guessed the Harley Benton right away. I didn't guess the first three but I immediately thought that the most beautiful was # 2. marcus miller surprised me! I expected it to be the Sandberg or the Fender

That was a pretty cool comparison. Just goes to show how close the sounds really are. I’m guessing they were played a decent amp, which will improve a guitar sound. Thanks for doing this.👍

I won't believe the 2 is a Sire...I have fenders jb, pb, marcus sire v3 , V7... they do not have this sound at all, unless you choose to set it like this..maybe because for thomann, selling sire pays less dividenes than selling higher prices basses or HB which is the Thomann brand...Im sorry, I love your videos, I always like after watching, but I don't belive it this time...why wedon't see them played without cryptic image after?? the difference can't be so big...and this sound is totally strange for a Sire...but the other I would agree, the HB included..

I didn't try to guess which brand it was, but what had the best sound. The HB, surprisingly, won by a landslide every time, as the others were too bright. The Marcus Miller came in second, with a good bridge tone and fine blend.
Does the JB-20 have the sound of the JB-75? I've heard it's much lighter, which would be better for me.

Yay I'm right. Julia is the reason I bought a California TT4 last month. It feels so much more worthy than a Fender in this price range. The entire processing pays tribute to "Made in Germany". Thanks Julia and greetings from Cologne

Everyone can tell the Sanberg it is very clear. Surprising, the next bass that was great sound was the HB JB-75, the rest sound somewhat muddy. I have the MM V7 and still the HB-75 sounds better. I own both. I will getting rid of the MM. Love to have the Sanberg but can't afford it. LOL I play on my HB JB-75 all the time now. A 140 dollar Base sound better to me at home than all my other basses except the High End. You get what you pay for.

I own a MM V7 and mine sounds nothing like yours…yours sounded the worst by far compared to the others. The reason I bought the Sire was because of other comparison videos. You must have gotten a dud because I would have never bought a Sire based on this comparison.

Wauw. The reveal was a total surprise for me.
In order of sounding good to me (through normal earphones), I had them ranked 4 - 3 - 1 - 2.
I found n°2 too muffled, n°1 too bright for my taste.
N°4 sounded the most to me as 'classic Fender Jazz bass'.

I thought that surely was going to be the Fender.
Really impressed with Harley Benton. Again.

Me, not being a bass player, says

1 hb
2 fender
3 mm
4 california

1 is hb. Doesnt sound baaad per say, but somewhat "screechy" and a little unpleasant especially compared to the others, like what youd expect from cheap pickups.

2 fender. Sounds very muffled like the tone knob was turned down. Not knowing anything about basses, this is the sound i would expect from these kind of basses with the muffily "anti slap" string cover thingy.

3 is Marcus miller. Best sounding one imo. This could be the california too, but due to the Marcus millers looking slightly more modern i assume theyre gonna Sound better too.

4 cali. Close to 3, but doesnt sound as perfect, like youd have to mess around a lil to make it sound as good as 3 in a mix.

Edit: welp, not exactly correct huh😂

All of these basses except #1 need a professional setup. It is obvious that the pickup height has not been set properly on most of them, and the tone suffers as a result. I would caution anyone who believes that a Harley Benton is on the same planet as a Fender bass in terms of quality from listening to this video.

Julia, how much do the strings affect the sound? I too was surprised how crispy the Sandberg sounded. Or are they all recorded with the same strings? I think you did a string blindfold comparison once, or am I wrong? I think you can tell us a bit out of your testing experience.

Best to worst, imo:
1 - not sure how to describe it, but that sound is something else, it's just so huge, so well defined, I love it
4 - noticeably worse than the 1st one, but still super pleasant
3 - ok
2 - this one was super flat, especially given the fact it was played right after no 1, which was outstanding, the blend was a little bit better but still would put it at the end
crazy
