His past is a cover story. Gustavo is not from Chile. He is not a native spanish speaker and defenately does not have an accent from Chile, or México, for that matter.
Furthermore, genetic studies show that 3.8% of the Chilean genome came from Africa with the highest concentration is in an area in the north at 5.7%.

I do remember Gus smiling once. It was when Juan Bolsa was being killed; he smiled with satisfaction as heard the SWAT team bursting and gunning him I'm sure there was no one else around to see him.

Hey vile eye, I absolutely love your videos and your keen insight into character traits, but I must offer one small correction. Twice I've heard you use the term "Stool-pigeon" as though it means pawn or underling, it actually means a snitch or informant. Just fyi. Keep up the good work.

Gus is the definition of "hiding in plain sight". He represents so many in this world that seem to be upstanding citizens on TV and Instagram, yet are really living in a disturbing underground world. They just play the straight man on the surface so they can jump through legal loopholes for their shady business practices.

Gus fring is certainly an awesome character, but it always feels off when he talks about his life in Chile, as Coaties aren't a thing here, or the way he calls what he cooks for Walter
(edit: Didn't know there were actually Coaties here on Chile, that means he must have lived imon that one island where they seem to be from)

I always interpreted Gus was actually an active participant in the Pinochet’s regime and he didn’t want to stick around in Chile for fears of human rights violations and even fearful of his own government due to his sexuality.

I think the reason gus acted that way around Gale was partially to manipulate him, but also because he reminded him of Max. Not in a romantic sense but professionally they were similar in that they were both mentored by him when they were chemistry students to eventually assist him in his illicit empire.

Brilliant video with a very plausible theory about Gus' back story.
Two things:

1) The killing of Victor - I understood it to be because he got himself seen at the scene of Gale's crime. He knew that Victor had to go, so capitalised on it as an opportunity to threaten Walt, and possibly to get Mike to book his ideas up. But he had no choice to kill Victor.

2) It seems almost certain that Gus ordered the kid's death. He was trying to create a pretext that Walt would accept for Jessie to be murdered. Mike's visit to Walt's house on the same night was no coincidence.

Since we are discussing evil, it only makes good sense to understand what it is that we measure evil against…
We were all created by Almighty God, and we are meant to give consideration to God in everything we do.
At its absolute best, the reasoning of these men is small minded, short sighted and self serving.
Small minded, because it gives no consideration to the intellect of God.
Short sighted, because it gives no consideration to the grand design of God.
Self serving, because it gives no consideration to the will of God.
Without temperance through, and mercy of Almighty God, mankind would use, abuse and hunt himself into perdition… just as these men did.

The most probable thing is that Gus was a military in Pinochet regime doing torture on political prisoners... If he was 15 when Pinochet ascended to power, that doesn't mean that he wasn't old enough to have an active role DURING the regime

Can you do one of these on that one group of people that had a group or party or something that seceded to form the confederacy, and whose members were the founders of a group with 3 letters ? I think they also needed the federal government to send troops to force them to allow black students access to segregated schools ? Their name is slipping my mind.

Gus was everything Walt should've been. Pragmatic, cold, calculating, merciless but above all else a businessman. In a world of cutthroats to be king means eliminating opposition in quick, clean succession or one fell swoop. After Walt killed Gus he was visibly lost afterward like someone constructing a house, but losing the layout halfway through building it so he just started best-guessing. I'm genuinely surprised Mike stayed with him as long as he did.

I honestly disagree with you about your whole comment about the world being a better place without meth. The reason I say that is there’s been a lot of movies and music and books and all sorts of other media. We have enjoyed as humans throughout time that probably wouldn’t exist without some form of drugs, and unfortunately, meth is going to be included in that list.
