Does soaking epsom salts help draw out the debris in the wound? Or is this an old remedy that we should no longer use like hydrogen peroxide?

Good question . . . I don't know the absolute answer. Epsom Salts is essentially magnesium sulfate. Soaking in warm water certainly helps loosen debris. I'm not sure of the role of magnesium sulfate. It is one of those older recommendations that likely won't hurt anything.

The old KISS principle always wins! Irrigation is important . . . probably the most important aspect of wound care. Thanks for watching!

My wife thinks you're smart for not vacuum packing your wife's stuff. She said, "A vacuum packed bag of purse contents and make-up would leave quite a bump when thrown at a husbands head!!!" Then she proceeded to remind me not to get any more bright ideas...

Great how to format on this and many of your other videos. It's almost like This Old House for medicine. Can't wait for the level 2 kit. I think I'll put one together as my main kit for the house.

The level of irrigation that you are trying to emulate would be the equivalent pressure from a 20cc syringe with a narrow bore tip (i.e. 18ga needle). The goal is gentle pressure irrigation. Hope that helps!

DOC, The irrigation system is awesome. While making one up, I got to thinking, punching holes in the top of the lid is a good way for me to drill a hole in myself. Since they are universal, I just tossed in an extra water bottle lid with the holes pre drilled. Keep up the great work.

@mrmonkeyman50 - After our recent conversations, I think I know what you mean. However, there is another reason for this which I will share in an upcoming video.

I think one of those lids on up-side-down ketchup and mayonnaise jars (if they fit the platypus) would work well. they have a squeeze (pressure) activated valve in them. it would stay sealed unless you are squeezing irritant out. you would probably have to trim the lid down for bulk. many lids have standard sizes many they are compatible. my personal kit has a pressurized can of saline. inside is always sterile but you don't know how much is left and it is only a small can.
