Vlog: Need A Digital Artist! (TJ TV and #ChangeTheChannel)

I know how much CA previously meant to you, but I'm gonna be honest with you dude... in hindsight, I enjoyed TJ TV far more than the Nostalgia Critic. Old NC was alright, but the newer episodes have an egotistical vibe to them, which TJ TV never did.

If tj tv comes back will it be a weekly bi weekly monthly or when you can.

I liked TJ TV before I learned about Plastic Addict (which I only learned of after you told me about it in my TJ TV review), but if the format isn't your style then go ahead and make it you. I'm sure people will still enjoy it and you might be better off. You might even get your younger toy review fans to check out some older cartoons.

Did monetization have a hand in CA’s downfall? Just curious, ‘cause I’ve seen it destroy more than one channel

It's kind of sad really. Channel Awesome came out of such an optimistic time. Lots of experimentation going on. I guess the conclusion was that you still need good business minded and people minded individuals behind the scenes, just like a real studio. Can't imagine the whole endeavor was all that profitable either.

Don't regret looking up to them. You didn't know what you know now.

I'm of course supportive of the change, but I have to ask: The older episodes, will they be preserved at all, just for posterity's sake?

I'm not sure that you should regret trying to become part of Channel Awesome. The energy and potential that they possessed for a few great years drew in and inspired thousands of people. It is not your fault that it became what it became and it does not reflect poorly on your judgement. What I really want you to know is that the only reason I ever heard of Channel Awesome in the first place was from following you and your content, from Plastic Addict to TJTV. I was your fan first and whatever good CA brought to me over the years I ultimately owe to you. I understand if you feel that your work was corrupted in some way by your desire for success on their platform, but your work still stands proudly in my eyes. By all means change what you need to change in order to move forward, but please don't sell yourself short. You produced great content, Channel Awesome was foolish to not see that, and now you are poised to outlast them by producing even greater content.

The ideas for the new TJ TV sound great! I hope you can make it happen soon.

I'm a digital artist but I'm a shit one, lol. Though I have worked freelance on a few projects before.

I've honestly been avoiding any of this because I didnt want to believe it was true. But your a guy I feel is always honest with us. I didn't know wether their defense was good or not, I just kept hoping the worst things mentioned whereby true. I can't say I want Channel Awesome to go away, I still love Nostalgia Critic, but I gotta now admit they where very talented, but maybe not the best businessmen.

Wow, reminds me of the D.E.N. In the 90’s... my old company I was a huge part of it. Check my channel Larry Zeno or just look up the Digital Entertainment Network. I can’t say what I know!

I think the most damming thing for me was Linkara who wasn't as much effected directly but saw so much in the background & seemingly was the most support the other producers had especially after Holly was fired. I used to be such a channel awesome & TGWTG fanboy watching the majority of reviewers, so of course mixed feelings & the CA reply made it easier to not be on the owners side. I as a long time fan alone feel betrayed so your feelings Def are justified. Also I'll keep being a fan of whatever you do cause you always posted the best content you could being an official CA reviewer or not I say you've done good. (Sorry for the monologue.)

I'll stick with watching TJTV no matter what you decide to do with it as long as Hey You makes a comeback because really that's all that matters in the world

I would like to say that I'm extremely supportive of making TJ TV your own and I'm really happy for you. I'm also going to say that you shouldn't regret trying to become part of CA, because you didn't know what they were. Is it weird if I want to know what kind of work you would like for the backgrounds? I want to give it a shot myself

Just out of curiosity if you got rejected so many times how did you get NC to guest star on TJTV? Or why did he? I've always been curious, cause until now I thought you were part of CA for a bit when it was TGWG.

CA is disgusting, and I feel compelled to not watch Nostalgia Critic again. Anyway, your idea for the new TJ TV sounds pretty cool and I hope it goes well, and I'm glad it is making a return.

I just want the upper management of Channel Awesome and The Walker Brothers to make up for their mistakes. If they don't, this will be their downfall. They need to own up be an adult. I just want them to own it, I don't want their website to burn to ashes. I just want those guys to grow up and mature.

This is purely personal opinion, but I always thought TJTV was better than the Nostalgia Critic. It was funnier, it didn't overly rely on crude humor, and it was making fun of things I'd actually seen and know something about. I didn't grow up in the states that much and most of what NC was reviewing at the time I'd never seen. ALL of the cartoons you've reviewed, I watched as a kid. For that matter, I LEARNED things from TJTV! I've never learned anything from NC. PLEASE get back to TJTV and PLEASE make it your own. I can only imagine how much better it's going to be.

Man, I still remember how our friendship randomly started because I was selling my Complete selection of the Dopant gaia memories from Kamen Rider W, on the HJU forums. Let me tell you, seeing how happy you were in that unboxing video afterwards had me smiling for days man. And that's really what videos are all about. Informing people, having a good time, but also making people smile.

You were so consistently good, in the sites podcast I remember I actually had to start picking other people. You were easily one of the top bloggers, and why you were overlooked I will never ever know, especially with how you even say you definitely catered it to the style that CA was mostly using at the time.

I like that you are willing to change things up, and as you take this step towards catering to your own, personal style I'm sure your subscribers are going to be on a hell of a trip to even better content man. I've got a ton of faith in ya, Give it hell :)

CA really reminded me of the WWE and Doug walker reminded me of Vince McMahon. People will cite him as a genius and started an empire and revolutionizing the internet review. No he didn't and no he wasn't, he was just in the right place at the right time, refused to change up his skills and demanded everyone else to follow suit and hindered the trend rather then helped it. Channel Awesome was an awesome idea that was being controlled by an egomaniac idiot like Doug walker.

I'm looking forward to this TJ, always found your tjtv comfy as all hell and don't beat yourself up about trying to get on CA too much. Everyone of your Ilk wanted that coveted spot on the site. Everyone does stupid things, everybody acts likes a spergy spazz once in a while. You do you and do it the best you can.

I loved TJTV and honestly, my favorite part of the episodes was always the first half where you went into detail about the shows themselves. I hope you are able to rework it and start it up again.

When you where mentioning the tv things, some resin something from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons an the movie had popped into mind. Could see a Video Store like set up with a stack of TV's in the area, would be cool to see as a background.
If you was to have a bunch of TV's in the background, would there images on the screens or just blank screens? Just something thought I would ask an if it was something might of crossed your mind or not.

Personally I don't think referential humor or cutaway gags are bad onto themselves, it's that you can't be 100% about them. I agree that TJTV should definitely be it's own thing but if you can think of a REALY cool and unique reference I don't see why you shouldn't add it. I recommend a healthy ratio and good selection. I don't want you to be skewed by forcing yourself to be the opposite of the CA format. Go with what you think would amuse you .
Also while I'm a 2D artist I'll ask some of my friends who do 3D if they would be interested.

You don't have to regret wanting to be signed by them. You didn't know what was going on behind the scenes and a good friend of yours used to be employed with them so you wanted to be on the same site as your friends, without knowing how chaotic it was there. Yeah, you heard some of the stories, but it's a natural human impulse to go "maybe I could help my friend so it will get better."

The only people to blame in this are the management of the company: Doug, Rob, Mike, and Greg. Mike and Greg gave that half-assed apology while Doug and Rob just idly stood by, letting them get away with it because "we're friends." When they started losing even more contributors, they made one last-ditch attempt by using a deceased contributor as a scapegoat (whether accidental or on purpose, the dates of his dismissal were left up to the internet did what it always does) and it just made them look even worse because other than Holly (who was likely not allowed to say anything due to her non-disclosure agreement,) none of them knew about it while those who did, were forced to stay silent.

As for the things in the document (some of which you heard from your friends,) some of them are shocking but sadly, I'm not surprised. I worked for two bad companies and they both operated similarly. One did the right thing by replacing the abusive management, but the other did not so it went out of business. Furthermore, the company my father works for was put in a similar situation to Channel Awesome's (albeit under different circumstances) so I know how business protocol is supposed to work when a controversy such as this arises and Channel Awesome's was not professional at all.

With that being said, just continue doing what you love and best of luck getting TJ TV to come back...the way YOU want it to be.

before i watched nostalgia critic, i was watching tj tv and anime abandon. i think i'll go back to just watching the two. it's understandable for TJ to make changes, so TJ TV can more of TJ omega, and i support it.

Dude! I'm so glad I found this video! I've been looking for your stuff since Blip closed down. I'm looking forward to seeing the new format and I really hope you go into more depth about the production and voice talent in old cartoons. It's not soemthing I see a lot of people covering and I really enjoyed that part of your videos. The part I remember most was you talking about Mel Blanc in your Heathcliff vs Garfield video.
