Great information. Cheers!
ОтветитьI used the crimp method. I rented the tool from memards , $8 for 4 hours. I like the uponor method but the tool is too expensive.
ОтветитьI like the expansion method. I already had the Milwaukee M12 platform and I picked up the bare expansion tool for under $100, used. Works well with the 1/2 and 3/4, and with the 4a/h battery you could go all day with it. Prior to that I used the crimp method but got sick of changing dies and lugging around the kit, plus the install looks like amateur trash. Even new you'll pay more upfront for the tool, but even an avid DIY'er will save over the crimp supplies using the expansion method.
Ответитьthanks
ОтветитьInformative, concise and thorough. Great video, thanks!
ОтветитьThink I'll try the push fitting, seems really simple.
Great job!
Need to find a UK supplier for crimp ring fitting and tools. Dont want to pay a fortune getting them from the USA.
ОтветитьWhat fitting do I use to attach sharkbite to old glavanized waterline
ОтветитьGreat video, will bookmark and watch other videos of yours as I work on this PEX project. :-)
ОтветитьIve worked as a handyman for 25years so Ive learned a few things (the hard way) about these systems:
1. Cinch crimps (:47) will corrode and burst if they're in a high humidity environment, or, are exposed to water dripping on them.
2. Push-Fit will fail if there's water hammer in the pipes. Over time the vibration causes them to wiggle off.
3. Brass PEX fittings should not be used on the hot water pipes as they corrode over time and cause leaks. I think the real problem might be that theyre made in China from inferior alloys and not pure brass. Ive never had a problem with the plastic ones and they're cheaper anyways.
i prefer the pex-a pipe with expansion fittings. the brass fitting is the same diameter as the pipe, so you get no flow restrictions at fittings.
ОтветитьI formative video. Thanks.
As I understand it the shortest pipe you can use in Pex-A using the expansion method is 2 inches. How short of a connection can you make in Pex-B using Push On connectors, crimp rings or cinch rings? How short of a Pex tubing can you use Rehau press system?
Thanks for the video. You didn't explain compression fittings though (which can easily be used with PEX and offer some advantages).
ОтветитьCrimp fittings comment: Learned all about and installed pex crimp fittings in Germany. Chinese brass fittings could not pass DIN standards and were prohibited in all applications.
ОтветитьWill pex work with a ford compression fitting if you put the insert in
ОтветитьI like PEX-A with the expansion fittings the best. Can't beat it with the Milwaukee M12 expansion tool. I'll use press connections (Viega) also but not as often. Wouldn't mess with crimp connections or Sharkbites.
ОтветитьI prefer the expansion fittings and use them throughout my construction. I currently have a single show mix vavle with pex compression fittings on it and I am wondering if I can use a crimp fitting on the vavlve on the shower wall and then use a compression fitting on the other end of the same pex-a pipe.
In other words are compression fitting OK to use on pex-a?
push fittings are a temporary fix, they are not reliable.
ОтветитьGet a haircut hippie!
ОтветитьIs pex A Upinor interchangeable with pex A Apollo?
ОтветитьThank for the video...I see I am getting to the show a couple of years after the video was made. When I looked at Push fittings vs Crimp Fitings, the inside diameters of the fittings are vastly different. 1" Pex push fittings would allow full 1" flow. It looked like the Crimp fitttings, which are inserted into the pex, litterally reduced the flow by at least 1 pipe size. That said, I bought 4 push fittings at a cost that would have paid for the crimp tool. I was going for flow so Ipaid the price.
ОтветитьPotable has a long o
ОтветитьPush Fittings aka Sharkbites are not compatible with soft copper only hard copper, just a FYI
ОтветитьCan you connect pex a to pex b?
ОтветитьI've encountered crimp style fittings that use very thin wall copper before. They fail a LOT.
ОтветитьI can't get passed you pronouncing Uponor as "up-honor"
ОтветитьPreference would be in part determined by the number of fittings needed: For a simple alteration, 'shark-type' fittings can be justified; otherwise, the Diega system is preferable.....
Sometimes, your videos fly by a bit fast, but they can always be viewed....repeatedly...!??! Please leave all literal, i.e., written information on the screen as long as possible...!
We built our home (northeast) and used PEX-B with brass fittings and copper crimp rings. When using this same application, it's VERY important to note that if your architect specifies 1/2" piping for potable water to fixtures (which is typically code), your plumber should always upsize (use larger size) the pipes and fittings. The reason? 1/2" PEX piping is the size of the "inside" diameter of the PEX pipe. The brass fittings slides into or inside the PEX pipe. This REDUCES the size of the water flow rate from 1/2" to whatever the inside diameter of the fittings. So now, we have an issue with low flow rates when we have multiple fixtures calling for water (i.e. running the dishwasher and take a shower at the same time or taking a shower and flushing the toilet). It is very noticeable.
ОтветитьMan , excellent
You are the Man
We are without water after the freeze and plumbers have a long waiting list. So we need your help. There is an old galv. steel connector from our well that is 2 inch ext. diameter (1 1/2 inch threaded female interior). What adapter do we need to connect to this that will reduce to a 1 inch pex pipe on the other end?
ОтветитьDam fine vid. This field is getting so big it's hard to keep track of all the options. Metal, plastic, press, push, expansion. Heck I've never even heard of push on. Crazy. That one looks so easy. I wonder what the life span of those are. I've heard so many different pronunciations of Uponor that I don't know what to call that one. Anyways, nice vid.
ОтветитьVery good explanation ! Bravo!
ОтветитьHi... Would you say using a curved 90 is better for end pressure, as opposed to a fitting 90?... Thanks...
Ответить👍
ОтветитьI got one pex a fitting not all the way to the shoulder, wonder if it can cause leak later on. It only has 0.5mm gap in between maybe less. But it doesnt leak as of now. Connections are in tricky place so redoing it would be a challenge. All of them i got all the way to shoulder but this one is almost but not quite and might just leave it as is without redoing it
ОтветитьCan pex A be used with a traditional pex fitting? and use a cinch clamp thanks
ОтветитьI use the plastic crimp fittings. Used to use the metallic ones but my water eats those away in a year or so.
ОтветитьI got the push fittings, that don't have the white inserts for the PEX. Doe's that mean I can only use it on the copper, not the PEX?
ОтветитьVery informative. Thanks - well done.
ОтветитьI have a question about using pex in an existing baseboard heating system. My copper pipes have started leaking from inside the concrete underground. I'd like to reroute to the existing baseboards. What connectors would be best for pex al pex to copper or the oxygen barrier pex to copper?
ОтветитьUp honor 😂
ОтветитьDoes it matter if the fitting has ribs that are small or the type that look like sloped barbs? Do the types needs different clamps or is one more prone to leasking?
