Gene and Betty Hoots expanded their ice cream operation and added burgers and fries to the menu. Since they had owned Frigid Queen, it seemed to make sense that a queen needed a king, and Burger King was born. Meanwhile, down in Florida, the Burger King chain was also born...and they set their sights to be a nationwide brand, just like McDonald's was doing.
