Got Manual Focus Lens? This Device is a Game Changer

Lord knows I dont need more gear but im Sirui lens junkie at this point and pulling focus manually while moving with a gimbal is torture. One more purchase shouldnt hurt 😬 dope vid bro

I am super interested on this Lidar solution. What if you did the test of a car chase (as you show) but place the magnetic tag on the car you want to keep focused on? Would the motor work fast enough to keep the focus? Please test this further. Thank you for all you do.👍👍👍

This is currently one of the more thorough videos on this LIDAR motor...even more than PDMovies videos.

You do a good job of the pros and cons. I have the motor and agree with everything you said. I think its still worth it if you can get it for a great price.

bad idea to put a lidar bewind the mattebox!

I'm leaning toward choosing the DJI Lidar. Although it necessitates the Gimbal for setup, I'm more comfortable with its impressive 14-meter range!

The PDMovie boasts faster and easier to setup, but it doesn't suit my needs for filming anamorphic content, particularly with my widest lens at 45mm on Full Frame. It falls short in capturing the entire scene, especially when using my 100mm lens! Max 3-5m is a shame!

For wide-angle shots close to the subject or situations demanding swift movements like in sports, the PDMovie Air 3 appears to be a viable choice. However, with telephoto lenses, it's limited to focusing on headshots.

Nonetheless, the price of the PDMovie is steep, especially with delivery to Germany factored in. With taxes, the 1N Version amounts to nearly 700€ (The set). Comparatively, the DJI Lidar with the motor comes at a similar price. Although it requires some clever workarounds to use without a gimbal, it involves quite a few cables.

I've decided to remove the PDMovie from my shopping cart and opt for the DJI instead.

When you calibrate this lidar, do you measure the distances with a real meter, sorry footer cause you don't seem like a meter guy 😂 or do you use the writings on the lens. I ask that because in my experience those markings are not always exact. Really curious.

I used a lidar sensor for the DJI RS2 with a BMPCC 4K setup to film myself. The whole setup was a hassle, so I switched to an A7SIII and a tripod haha. But this looks promising for a smaller setup for anything not limited to just a gimbal.

I got this few days ago and went out for testing it out with a model. Is should be better to say it is a wireless focus puller with an extra feature Lidar focus system, to provide little more help.
Only some kind of shots can use Lidar auto focus, half of the time i use it for focus pulling myself.
Advantages compare with the focus motor from the gimbal is i can place the bluetooth focus puller in other positiion while i am holding the gimbal.

I’ve set my lens once. Turned it off, followed the video to recall the previous lens calibration, but then AF doesn’t work anymore. What am I missing?

Would be interesting if the “external” focus motors could be made to work with camera bodies AF systems.

This is a no brainer purchase for solo filmmakers. DJI wants everyone to buy their gimbal in order to use their lidar system.

How does the lidar "chose" the point to focus ? would be perfect to be able to say with a touch screen where to focus. How does it compare with DJI ?

I'm assuming you have to recalibrate the focus range for each lens. Does it have a lens memory function? It would be unusable otherwise.

Naw. These things are absolute trash. Don't waste your money. If you are a glutton for punishment and you want to purchase something that doesn't work which will ruin your day, pay me half of the cost of this garbage and I'll come ruin your day for you. That way you can save a few bucks. This thing f**** sucks.
