Cottage makeover: creating a warm and cozy space with thrifted treasures

I absolutely love moving my furniture around, it can make the room feel so different. I have a move round perhaps 2-3 times a year, but I haven’t got a lot of Knick-knacks like you so it isn’t such a big job, I’d have anxiety with all your stuff but it really suits your style. If I lived in your bungalow I would definitely have a table by the window and then arrange the rest to fit around that. It’ll be so nice to sit and eat or do your art work where you have it now. Little Charlie playing in the dark was so cute 😊💛💐

My figure has morphed at 70 into this weird kind of shape for which that gorgeous dress is NOT well-suited 😅, but someone is really gonna love it ❤️ I will, for the time being, enjoy dreaming of an eternal future in which my 'flesh becomes fresher than in my youth', and I'm able to wear all the lovely flowey dresses like I used to when I was young and the style was all that ❤ and so was I... a long-haired, light, and lovely, folk song singing, guitar playing 18 year old with more hopes and dreams than could ever be realized in one normal human lifetime.

50 plus years later, the hopes and dreams are things I keep alive and bright as I continue to create, like you, what I can of them even now. What I'm appreciating in sharing the above is how much patience I've acquired in the ensuing years and how little I used to have.

The pursuit of a more instant gratification has given way to faith and endurance that I didn't know the need for back when, and it's good after all to be older and wiser, even if I have to take a break from wearing what I would just not look so good on me for this little while 😊

The table goes great there, and you can sit in the sunshine, close to your doggie on the couch. The dress is certainly my style. I am 78 and wear clothes just like that. Hi, just a thought why not move the sofa on the opposite wall and put your desk in front of the window. Then you can move the TV in the corner where your record player was. The chair can stay where you just put it, I think it will still give you that open concept. Charlie will still have a window, but on the other side.

I actually like the new layout of your living room. The table seems to work better under the window and I don’t think it’s too crowded. I think what’s throwing you off is the empty space where your table used to sit. It sounds like you were so used to having a drop zone for your keys and purse and that’s what makes you feel the space isn’t right. I liked your idea of a butcher block table (a small square one would work and wouldn’t stick out too far into the room) instead of your round table sitting in that area. I had always thought the round table seemed to take up a lot of room and made the area look more crowded that way you have it now arranged. Plus, as you mentioned, you can sit in front of the window when you eat and when you paint and write your cards. Try living with this arrangement for longer than a month, give it the summer and see how you feel then.

I often wonder about someone’s personality and their design sensibilities. You seem to completely match your style. 💕 I love moving things around and changing vignettes.

How about hanging your seedlings from the top of the window? You could rig up something, like a tray that has a couple of broad ribbons around it that are hung from a wooden dowel... I really think that it looks just beautiful with the table by the window, and it's nice for us to watch you there in the sunshine too! So hope you can just enjoy the change in the meantime. We had a gorgeous sunny day where I am in Canada, too, today and I went out for a lovely walk. We still have snow up to our knees here. Watching your Hudson Valley travels gives me something to look forward to, but I'm still enjoying walking in the snow... Hope you and Charlie have a splendid week!
