You're not going to just jump in and have this figured out. It's going to take some trial and error, and that is basically what he is saying. I will say, music should be unique and creative. Without giving up quality, BE YOU!! Create your own sound. BE ORIGINAL!! If it just so happens to sound like something or someone else so be it. But don't do it on purpose. Take your time...I have never been to school for any of it, I may not be the best, but I have put the work in to charge good money for mixing and mastering. I don't even do it full time, I just do it because of passion. We all want a quick fix, but I am ol skool, I like coming up with my own as well. There are a MILLION +, trying their hands at producing alone. What makes you different, what makes you stand out? Keep pushing!! Put the work in and let the chips fall where they may.
