Fantastic video. Of course, Jesus would be the answer to unify us. I almost think we need a kind of... "don't know, don't care" (for lack of a better expression), mode towards other Christians that correctly believe in Jesus. Those of us that believe he is the 2nd person in the God head, and that He died and rose again to make us right with Him... you know, and then all the people that don't believe that are not part of our unity. "Don't know, don't care, as long as we agree about who Jesus is."

When Baptists say they believe that the bread and wine are symbols, they mean that the bread and wine are tokens.

I think the biggest difference between the two is who has the power in deciphering the world? Is it the Pope, or is it the Holy spirit? Im protestant because I believe the holy spirit guides more than any human man can. Still love all my brothers and sisters and christ though and this was so good for both sides.

Edit: I just found out i'm not even protestant... I'm actually Baptist which actually never splintered from the church, because they always existed outside the church. Pretty cool to come to that realization while listening to this. Great Content once again!

The thief on the cross knew nothing about the church, doctrines, cannons, or anything yet because he believed Jesus told him that he would be with him that very day in Paradise. I think it's become way too complicated.

How do you convince protestants to rely on the authority of the church instead of scripture when we see liberal or socialist Popes that are obviously deviating from what God has taught us in the Word?

I am a Christian who fell away from the faith for a long time for many of the reasons you guys have discussed. Infighting, division, judgmental attitudes etc.. I am also a History and Religious studies major and it is consoling to hear two people with such intellectual acuity and opposing viewpoints reach out to each other and have this dialogue. Whether you know it or not you are the future and you are following what the Holy Spirit is intending for this last of ages. To coin that ridiculous but apt phrase: Unity in Diversity. Unity yes, but unity in one purpose, and that is the love of Christ. Forget the naysayers my friends and keep up the good work. God Bless you both

In Kairos prison ministry it totally works. Catholics, Mennonites, churches of Christ, Baptists, etc. all working together and worshiping together for the sake of our incarcerated brothers. We take the analogy of a journey down a river, the river channel is the core belief we hold in common and the banks are where we differ; “Stay within the banks” is our slogan. We set aside our respective traditions and embrace Jesus Christ, His death, burial and resurrection, for sake of ministering to our fellow incarcerated Christians. What we must adhere to are the wardens rules as his guest in his house.

Its funny that i guess some Protestants dont know Catholics and vise versa but try this. My mom was raised Catholic and her whole family thus all my aunts, uncles cousins are Catholic. She however converted to be a Methodist when she married my dad. Then i married former Maronite Catholic whose whole family is Maronite Catholic. Strange world. So i cant believe that half of either side of my family's are in hell because there were good devout people on both sides.

1 Corinthians 12:12-31. I think we should be proud as a country that we can love one another. I personally am from a family that has dual faiths. In the past 3 generations we have had Catholics and Protestants on both sides. Not to mention I see Catholics converting to Protestant and vice versa. Spent many years in a Bible study with a Catholic, who often brought the beauty of Christ with her. PTL!

A good conversation, however this whole Protestant pluralism of “I’m ok, your ok, we are one big happy family and we will sing hymns and have out Kumbaya moments, let’s just get along.” I’m sorry, I am being a bit sarcastic. I have seen that in my relatives. That kind of stuff drives me crazy.

I am a Protestant who has a great love for my Catholic brothers and sisters. My maternal grandparents were Polish and Czech Catholics and I grew up attending mass with them. Even on leave from the Marine Corps, I enjoyed attending services at St. Michaels in Bedford, Texas with them. I have become less sectarian in my walk with Christ.

I believe it was Aquinas who said, Faith builds on nature. Matt and Matt are naturally patient and then I truly believe God has infused them both with massive supernatural patience to engage this this type of discussion. It was less human apologetics and more of a discussion with Jesus at the table with them. So good.

As an atheist who has long since outgrown the "debate" spaces online, I definitely sympathize with Matt W. You can't believe what you can't believe was my motto, long before I'd heard the man speak. But, I have come to a place where I can appreciate the value and structure religion can bring to a society, I'm trying to learn have more productive and valuable conversations with believers, because at the end of the day, we do all have to share this pale blue dot. While it's still here at least 😊

Genuine question for Catholics and I guess Orthodox too: asking saints to pray for us; how do they hear the supplication of millions of Christians? John’s Revelation seems to indicate that saints in heaven are spending their time worshiping God. Further: are we to think that those pillars of the faith gain omnipresence that they’re able to hear supplication? Is that part of that Catholics and Orthodox believe John means when he says “But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is”?
