Unpopular opinion, Alonso is a bit overrated. Excellent driver, but not quite god tier like people make him out to be. If he was really THAT fast, would he be spending year after year in a dogshit car? I think not. His terrible career decisions are also further proof of that. Teams would be wanting to roll out that red carpet out for him and that hasn't been the case because they don't want to deal with the ego and attitude. Alonso had his 6-7 year peak 2 decades ago. It's been steadily downhill since. Measuring up Alonso (a 2x WC) to Stroll means nothing. Everyone knows Stroll is a deeply unserious paid driver that is only in F1 cause of his daddy.

Stroll is actually very good in the rain, go over the wet races, but Brazil was an all time low. Stroll when things are not competitive his demotivated. Sure just a paid seat but going to need to step up. RB need to crunch numbers so workout a buy out which works with Checo and sponsors. It’s complex to budget for a new driver and pay your previous driver. So not easy decision, especially since the RB/KTM GP team is going into Administration.

Checos contract would surely have a clause stating that he would be fired if he didnt perform to the teams expectations
and that would put him in breach of the contract and RedBull does NOT have to honour the other 2 years.
As it turns out he doesnt perform to the teams expectations so RedBull technically could tear up the contract.
No 2 years and No payout.
