When will Steve albini produce Tool? I want to hear Danny Carey on Steve albini microphone prescription
ОтветитьSteve needs to be in the hall of fame twice, once for the influence of Big Black on music, and secondly for his pure genius in music production
ОтветитьPlaying music for most of my life, yet never been in a proper recording environment. This was absolutely fascinating.
ОтветитьDrums sound absolutely incredible
ОтветитьHe always put recorded by and not producer/engineer. I'd love to see him work with a Guy Stevens or Paul Rothchild type...magic
ОтветитьBravo 🙌🏽
ОтветитьSteve is such a cool guy, always shares his secrets and straight to the point, no fancypancy. Just got a drumset to my homestudio and this stuff is gold.
ОтветитьI like the SM57 for drums but it's has a very dull, bassy sound
ОтветитьI like what Steve Albini says and his recording asthetic, but I was just listening to the 2013 Albini mix of In Utero and the drums suck, in my opinion. They're so underneath everything and unclear.
ОтветитьWas he smoking in there?! 😯
ОтветитьThis guy is full of shit !
ОтветитьI love Steve's drum sounds, more than any other engineer. One thing that I find peculiar, however is how he doesn't centre the snare in the overall stereo image. It's clearly a taste thing, as he's a master, but I'd love to adapt his over shoulders to more evenly catch the snare. I always find that stereophonic pulling from the discrepancy of near-field mics and mid-field mics distracting - an unnatural phenomenon in an otherwise overwhelmingly beautiful drum sound. Would love to hear from any experienced engineers who have taken the route of different angles to Steve regarding the above mentioned choices Steve has made.
ОтветитьExperiment, experiment, experiment, and then experiment some more!
ОтветитьThat room with the high ceiling sounds amazing, you're already 70% there before you even plug a mic in
ОтветитьI watched a bit of the master class Steve did in which he described a real affinity and preference for analog recording medium, i.e. tapes, and he enumerated a whole slew of reasons why didn't use digital formats. Listening to all the description of DSP he'ws running your kit through (e.g. the "ducking" of different mics) I find it an interesting contrast that there is this use digital signal enhancement to end up sprayed onto analog tape. I never realized he had so many neat DSP techniques to keep the different parts of the kit clean, isolated and free of bleedover.
Any case, what a brilliant engineer/producer. I am not a fan of really most bands he's known for working with, but I just love his intellectual approach to really in the most true sense of the word, engineering the recording of music.
Hi James which hi hat stand were you using here?. It looks like it can go very high
ОтветитьI'm so glad you did this. His drum sounds are always my favorite
ОтветитьI met steve Albini in 2007 when i co-owned a comics shop in Tulsa OK, he brought in a big box of 80s adult magazines and when we told him we dont buy those, he threw a fit and started calling me a stupid s.o.b and that i belong in salt lake city and yelling something about my Ford Taurus. He's still banned from the store, it was uncalled for. He's completely out of control.
ОтветитьThis literally proves that hes a procuder and not just an "Audio Engineer" These are artistic decsions happening.
