Having grown up in the foothills of the Rockies, I've always been as impressed with the humble, low relief of mountain ranges as with the towering, photogenic peaks. In the foundations of foothills we are more aware of snow runoff, of mature tree communities that form the vertical, vascular communications of creeks and streams falling from the high, rock-bound peaks and the pine-blanketed mountainsides, then rolling down through oak woodlands, enormous cascades of spring water filling the riparian corridors that wander through sage-carpeted prairies, losing altitude decrementally in short-grass bordered gullies and eventually merging into rivers ribboning vast stretches of the broad, low, high-grass plains.
I hope Andrea knows how many people are reassured by her bravery and strength. She's amazing.
