Gaming on a Nintendo Wii in 2024

Nintendo is the oldest gaming company in the world, yet their tech is the worst compared to the rest of the industry. Hopefully, microsoft or sony acquire Nintendo soon they can save Nintendo and help Nintendo with modern tech and better graphical fidelity.

Wii is awesome! just get an HDMI upscaler - done! Still the best way to play Wii. Some Say WiiU is, but WiiU does some weird stuff with image...I wish Wii or WiiU could play actual GameCube disks :( It can emulate it...but not as cool as physical media

I still have my original wii from the year it came out gamecube support and all, also still have the original wii sports amd wii sports resort too; dirt 2 is my favorite game on it rn

If only it played in HD it would age soooo much better. Don't get me wrong I have 2 that are GameCube compatible models and they are almost always cheap at yard sales but games look meh compared to emulating and the graphics advances that has had.

honestly the weakest part of nintendo is the only thing they sell are gimmicks. all their stuff is gimmicks. the only great ones were gba, ds and GameCube. and of course nes and snes back in the day. their best selling current console is the one without the gimmick.

You can't use thermal paste in the Wii, it has to be thermal pads. There is a gap between the cooler and the CPU/GPU thanks to the stand-offs on the bottom of the cooler, which thermal paste can not properly fill up. Also, the thermal pads are usually still fine today; they are more stiff/hardened by nature than thermal paste, so you can mistake them for aged thermal paste. You don't even have to take off the cooler - tearing apart the thermal pads - to remove the motherboard. Just remove the screws that hold it down, but leave it on the board; it will stick down well enough to move the board bit, if you're careful.

The Wii to this day is what I found the most economical and quickest retro gaming device. Most swampmeets you can get a complete set with the working disk drive for about $30. Connect to a $15 Wii Network adapter to do a mail bomb and in 10 minutes the Wii is softmodded to play retro consoles.

The Wii with a Retrotink 5x, HD Retrovision Cables, and USB Loader GX basically makes it look like a modern console.

I bought a Wii this year and modded it. I have every Wii and GameCube game on it along with a bunch of emulators.

I absolutely love it and recommend it to everybody.

Using that red shell but with white buttons, sd card cover, GC slot flaps, etc would probably look awesome.

I have a modded Wii that I modded and I love it ! I play on it daily. I have a OEM gc controller but the sticks are really loose well I did get it used so. But I don’t wanna replace the sticks it seems hard.

so I got the retrofigthers bladeGC the one with PlayStation layout and I love it! It’s way more comfortable in my hands then the GameCube controller it to me it doesn’t feel cheap at all and I don’t have any joystick issues

$12 is fantastic for how good that replacement shell looks, it even has the ATi sticker
