I love the music and the fact that a tv station would have the guts to actually express their own opinions and viewpoints. In today's politically correct and tyrannical tort legal state, a tv station would not dare air to their opinions nor less spend free air time to do so!
ОтветитьJust one question: Where did the music for this editorial segment originate from? It certainly had an odd fit to it. . . .
ОтветитьI am unsure but it may be one piece of the news ticker music item that was common from the 1920s radio to the early 1980s television. News Ticker music was quite common during these times. This was a time when news was more serious and professional and not tabloid and scentsationalistic as it is today.
ОтветитьI am glad you enjoyed the music and the video. As a kid, it would indeed be scary or seem to be something for adults in which (at the time) we would have no interest:) As adults now we can appreciate the qualities of the excerpt and appreciate how a tv station would have the guts to express their views and opinions without having to consult with their lawyers and special interest groups beforehand!
ОтветитьYou're welcome Tom! Glad you agree and enjoy the video! I will kepe them coming when I find them. If you have any, feel free to post it. Today's politically correct television and dwindling independent stations is a sad state for broadcasting as it limits creativity and indpendent thinking. Channel 9 at that time was a fine fine station. Now from what I see and read it is loaded with a pile of garbage.
ОтветитьCertainly not with these corporate minded monguls. The station would not dare waste such valuable air time and give up valuable ad or programming revenue to air their opinions mind any contrasting opinions from the public or external parties. Also, they would not dare risk the potential lawsuits if their opinions were to offend anyone. Sadly, the bottom line, political correctness, and legal protections supersede quality programming, creativity, intellectual expression, and the American Way.
ОтветитьThank you for informing us that Ted Mallie was the announcer for this clip. He appeared to be a fine speaker. I remember hearing him on Channel 9 as a kid and through my teen years. Again that was a different era! As for Sinclair and Fox, those conservative channels try vigorously to influence our opinions and brainwash us with their political right winged propoganda and one-sided views. Sadly, they are successful to some degree, especially in some political caucases in the USA.
ОтветитьToo bad his account was violated, was a great portfolio of clips.
Ответитьdoes some one have a clip advertising tv programs in the 70s with the slogan, "New York Comes ALive on CHannel 9"
ОтветитьWhat happened to TV NewsMan and His Account? Were they removed?
ОтветитьYes he did that is too bad he did:(
ОтветитьActually, Mr. Mallie's wording was, "Comments on our editorial opinions are welcome, and we recognize our obligation to broadcast contrasting views of responsible spokespersons in order to achieve a balanced presentation on this issue."
ОтветитьMr. Mallie was one of two famous voice at Ch. 9, the other being Phil Tonken; but there was also (at varying times) Frederick Manness, Russ Dunbar, Bob Jordan, Frank McCarthy, Ray Marlin, Jesse Elin Browne, Barbara Corsen (the last-named of whom, I.I.N.M., later went to WABC-TV and the ABC network). . .
ОтветитьIt was 'tvnewsman' who had the Editorial Reply clip . . . with Bob Jordan as announcer. Whatever became of Mr. Jordan?
ОтветитьThe announcer who intro'd that "News Digest" was the aforementioned Phil Tonken.
ОтветитьNow to express the opinion of the ident & the music of WOR-TV Editorial, that is TOO COOL!!!! When our family subscribed to Comcast in the early 80's in the Detroit area, I remember WOR-TV, New York. One of my favourite stations back in the 1980's (one of the reasons why I'm a Mets fan). Around 1992, Comcast Detroit decided to ditch WOR for WGN, Chicago. Needless to say, I never watched that channel to this day. What a bummer!
ОтветитьTVNEWSMAN is BACK on You TUBE!!!! I can live again!
Ответитьthis is the most memorable of all channel 9 WOR editorials openers!
ОтветитьI believe this is from 1983 or 1984 shortly after their move to Secaucus, NJ from NYC.
ОтветитьA similar verison of this music bed was used on WJBF-TV Augusta, Ga in the 1970's without the horn flourish, just the teletype sounding part. I'm sure its probalby from some production music disc of the era..
ОтветитьActually, the "new york" part of this graphic was eliminated in the months leading up to WOR's moving its city of license to Secaucus. There was an editorial reply from c.February 1983 (when WOR was still licensed to NYC) put up by 'robatsea2008' where the 'new york' was likewise missing.
ОтветитьDamn all the WOR TV stuff is getting deleted little by little...They just deleted the WOR TV block from '81 which featured the guy from Newark & they deleted the Fright Night bumpers & the commercial blocks!!! That sux!!! Can some1 please repost?
ОтветитьAwesome!!! I'm jumpin over 2 Dailymotion right now......Thanks!!!!
ОтветитьI remember when MCA/Universal continued to do these editorials, but they renamed them "Viewpoint."
ОтветитьHow can I ever forget that old school channel 9 editorial boy you tube really bring it home.
ОтветитьThey do not even do Editorials any more since all of these Fox and other big networks bought out the Independants..Wor like the others were Comunity minded Stations.
Ответитьyep Alfonso!!
ОтветитьPublished on my first birthday!
ОтветитьTo answer wmbrowns question that he posed years ago unfortunately Bob Jordan passed away 40 years ago in 1977 probably of a heart attack. while still employed at channel 9. At that point I'm sure he had been with the company at least 30 to 40 years as an announcer starting with the Mutual affiliation and moving to tv all together in 1968 after the tv radio split.
Ответитьthe beginning used to scare the s@@t out of me as a kid
ОтветитьWouldn't that make a cool ringtone?
ОтветитьThose were the days. The theme sounds Spanish.
ОтветитьThe theme sounds very Spanish
ОтветитьIt looks like it says Edito9rial.
ОтветитьI remember that so well. That was back when stations used to give editorials in between programs, that's rarely done today, since most newscasts are one big editorial (ex, MSNBC, CNN, etc)
ОтветитьThe only editorial theme you can dance to.
ОтветитьWOR TV Editorial remember that as a child back in the mid 1970s
ОтветитьWho doesn't remember this back in the day
ОтветитьEverything about TV was better back then
ОтветитьThis Editorial intro was used until 1983
ОтветитьIt certainly does bring back good memories of a Simpler time it has a little bit of an urgency to the sound of the intro but I certainly wish we had this editorial playing again however such things do not exist anymore. 😞😞😞😢😢😢
ОтветитьTed Mallie just being beast mode. He hit it hard. RIP 1926 - 1999. And he just blew all my perceptions of trans-Atlantic arrogance, cause he had that accent and he seemed like a cool nice guy unlike fucking FDR. I know some of the trans-Atlantic accented Allied Nordicist Yankee "Friends"-watching "Seinfeld"-hating unpopular incel shitstains preferred WPIX, that's why they were not popular as a station the way WOR-TV (late WWOR) were.
