This is all very anthropocentric. It's really only since the rise in wild swimming that there has been mass anger about water pollution which has been increasing for decades. Wild mammals have no other place to drink. Fish don't have a choice. Lakes, rivers, and oceans are more than just recreational facilities.

look at that place - almost nobody lives there, and the land beside the lakes is too mountainous to farm for most crops, so if anything they probably have grazing livestock. there is almost nothing to causewater polution. but I suppose the sparae settlement means that many homes, those outside of towns, are not connected to a sewage treatment plant at all?
how can cyanobacteria not be included in the water quality rating for swimming? they're probably the biggest risk factor!

They stopped speed boats years ago to keep the water quality good, it’s disgraceful that this is happening

I live on the coast and have stopped eating the shellfish I regularly gathered....
I've even seen algal blooms in the harbour...

Algae in a body of freshwater is not news. Calling it a pollutant is misleading.

I used to go here a lot in my younger years. Seeing signs warning of algae blooms would have been so strange back then - the water was always clear, cool a refreshing. So infuriating and sad to see this sort of thing happening there now 😢

To be fair the small lake near my house in the North West has had that algae bloom for the past few years in the summer, I think it's down to the climate change as nothing runs off into it and definitely no sewage.

The only useful protest is to stop voting for the infrastructure-selloff Tories.

I bet that the Greenpeace protesters who draped a black sheet over Sunak's house had thought about throwing sewerage into his swimming pool instead to simulate the reality of life in Britain under Tory rule.

lol, why not just poo in a bag and bury it, people dont realise poo goes into public waterways regardless its been happening for years people just dont understand about the ratios of water and poo ie its seen safe because the poo will be broken down and less harmfull, its dumb people want their 21st century lifestyle but are unaware of how it works, this happens in most places around the world, just put it this way be grateful your not drinking it......

Prize, you think, for the first to name the only Lake. Also pollution which is both sewage and farming related has never been adequately tackled.
