Such rich and wonderful teaching! I highly recommend your videos for both new IFS therapists as well as seasoned IFS therapists. I've been working as a therapist in this model for a number of years now and always feel there is more to learn. Your videos are truly a gift to our community! Thank you!!

Thank you so much for these videos. As a new therapist in training, these are super helpful for me! I would love to see more, including mock sessions using IFS

Just listened and watched your videos again, Derek, and found them so very clarifying. You have such an easy calm helpful way of working with so many challenging concepts. Really excellent. Highly recommend for all levels of IFS practitioners...a must listen.
Thank you so much for this wonderful series! 💜

I work in the mental health field but use IFS in my own personal therapy. I wonder if there's a stronger indication of counter-transference with using your own parts with client's parts?

Wonderful exploration and insight into the Model for therapists. Love the mention of the Medicine Wheel.

Fantastic teaching of IFS which I have been practicing untrained for a couple of years. Your videos are really helpful. Question: You mentioned the phrase "self-led parts" in this vidoe at one point, which I do not recall hearing about. I thought "parts" were sepreate and distinct from self, as in protectors and exiles.

Wonderful talk, thank you. I've been experimenting with this. I have a client who feels that one protective part is a hockey stick, leading her gut around. When she asked it what role it wanted to play, she got a blueberry. What the dickens? Full, juicy, vibrant, healthy. What was important was for me to explore these things with her and not judge 'that's weird! A blueberry?!' :)

As an aphantasiac person, I appreciate that you underline, that you don't have to be able to see your parts

Having a therapist in touch with their own parts would make me feel so much better as a client!!!
Such a good point about distrust. It’s almost impossible to tell a therapist that you don’t trust them. With IFS especially I have heard of therapists insisting to get at “the part” that distrusts them and they make trust the immediate focus. But the thing is, you can’t force trust in one session. It has to be built over time because actions speak louder than words. Not many therapists will take responsibility for dropping the ball either, if they zone out or are having trouble dealing with a client

Thank you Derek and Joanna. Really helpful!
As a 'newbie' IFS therapist, I found this (and the others in the series) to be so reassuring and instructive. Thank you for taking the time and effort to produce and share them.

The Medicine Wheel - Wonderful! In my study of qigong I encountered the same set of aspects of the whole. Physical, emotional, mental, spiritual - body, heart, mind, spirit. It made instant, intuitive, excellent good sense to me. It has for a long time rather annoyed me that in my culture (USA) we talk about "mental" health. I think I must have always known that mind and emotion were not the same, and I finally had an "official" framework to describe that. Official, and ancient. Our distress is rarely, if ever, an issue of mind, that is, intellect/cognition. If it were, we could think our way out of emotional distress - folks try to do that fairly regularly, with, as far as I can tell, limited success.
