If you can tell the name of parts that you replaced during repairs that would be helpful, they have stupid letters on them so hard to understand what is that part and how can i find a match to replace it.

A fan draws very little power. It worries me that an IC would go off under such low load. Founders edition should be more robust, right?

This is really good. You have time to disassemble, edit videos and share knowledge. And you don't advertise some companies for printed circuit boards..

Just wondering but when you first plugged it up and powered it on. Can you not spin the fan by hand while watching the monitor software to see if it shows RPM rotation on the fan in question initially to check for fan 'communication' to the board? Or is there a reason you should not do this. Just wondering if there is anything good/bad in doing so.

More fancy fans have their own integrated motor drivers and speed controllers, so they use the PWM duty cycle only as a control setpoint reference (e.g. power percentage) and generate the motor driving voltage themselves based on it, which is usually another (high-current) PWM signal, but it can be sloped to reduce noise. I think some can even regulate themselves to a constant RPM (the PWM is interpreted as min/max percentage), or maybe that's just for pumps because most mainboards with PWM and tach signals do RPM regulation anyway.

Somehow that PWM pin got shorted to 12 volt. Bad fan maybe, or plug forced in (even slightly) up-side down.¯\_(o_°)_/¯

You cant compare a mid range ti like the 3060ti to its previous flagship you usually compare it to something like a 2070 but with that being said in gaming benchmarks it is beating a 2080 so not sure where you are coming from because that is a big leap.

What a great tutorial on fixing an nonworking fan! Explanation of PWM was also really great with oscilloscope. Where did you get the part if you didn’t have a parts list? A donor board? it would be cool to understand how you would go about the repair if you didn’t have an exact donor board, how would you confirm the specifics of a PWM Chip to be sure that it would work if you pulled it from a non-matching donor card.?

Hello my man..found you few weeks ago and....you rock.
I have few questions if you can answer if you ever read this.
1- you are awesome. Not sucking up...what you do is art.
2- are you located in Usa or EU or?
3-if on laptop MB or simply gpu board there is empty sport for memory could it bought and put in those spot and would it read that now it has from 6 to 8 gb etc?
4- reason I found you is that on my gigabyte P57W v6 laptop gpu died..Could that be fixed and could 2 more GB of ram be added? Like is that doable, or do people do it?

Hi Tony, I do'n't have a 3060 ti but, I do own a Zotac GTX 1070 Ti Amp! and the fans are stuck at 43%, I can change the speed in MSI Afterburner and or Firestorm but the changes are not happening on the video card. I recently cleaned it and replaced the thermal pads and thermal compound. However, I am wondering what controller is responsible the Fan's RPM/Feedback. Also the cable for the Dual Fans PWM cable looks to be fine and both are spinning. But as per the hardware I just don't know enough. Should I replace the Fans or the Fan PWM controller? If it's the controller, can you please let me know which one. Thank you much! Also I should say that both fans do spin, also when I turn on the PC they are quiet but just as windows logs in I can hear the rpm increase to the 43% and that is where it stays and can't be changed. I tried creating a custom Fan Curve but this did not work either. I also used DDU to remove and re-install the drivers and this did nothing as well. Maybe Windows is screwed up? I have a Multi-meter is there something I can test to see if this is a hardware issue? Thanks Tony! Cheers!
