Glock 19 Gen 5 Honest Review: Really Better Than The Gen 4?

I wish I could find a gen 5 with this slide still but can’t seem to find one anywhere

I've only put aftermarket sights on one of my 5 Glocks; I just thought I'd see if all the fuss was warranted. It's not! I think the OEM sights are just fine. Yeah, they're plastic! So what? I have other plastic fantastic pistols that I like equally to my Glocks. The sights on some are really good, and some not so much. If you don't like the stock options, on any pistol for that matter, change them out for something you like better. Just don't judge someone because they don't agree with your opinions.

Being a Lefty, previous Gens often ejected spent cases right into my face, usually my forehead... with my Gen 5, some of the parts were changed

Honestly, now that they come with front serrations and filled in the cutout in the front, if they would just add metal sights, it would be mostly perfect. Even with the same trigger and ergonomics

I have the 19 Gen 5, purchased in November of 2017. It has been my EDC since I bought it. I like the tapered slide near the muzzle, no serrations, and the mag well. That big red dot on the front sight almost aims itself. That said, I despise how they have buggered up the newer versions with "forward serrations". Like an old Captain I worked for, I think they look stupid and hideous. I wish Glock would offer at least 1/3 of them without the forward serrations.

The M&p gets very uncomfortable to carry because the grips is so course that’s it starts rubbing through your skin throughout the day and becomes painful to actually carry

Been shooting left handed for a long time and just adapted myself to the right handed set up starting with the 1911. Having a gen 4 I didn’t even swap the mag release. Too much hassle for me to have to relearn muscle memory . I would still use right handed controls if I had a gen 5. For a first time lefty gen 5 would be great.

as a gen 4 owner, the best upgrade to the gen 5 is the lack of finger groves, fuck the gen 4 finger grooves

As a left-handed shooter, the fully-ambi layout is what glock has sold me. Never wanted a plastic pistol but it's a remarkably accurate shooting pistol!

Mine is the updated Glock 19 gen 5. It came with ameriglo front sight and blacked out serrated rear with u notch. Also no moon cutout in grip and it has the best stock trigger of any Glock I've ever owned!!! This is the first time I've ever bought a Glock and didn't feel the need to change anything!!! I also like not having finger grooves except on my Glock 40 mos as the grooves lock me in and help with managing recoil. I can walk the X-ring out of the target even out to 15 yards!!!

Love the sights but everything else was awful. Stovepipe ejection fails. Failure to fire. Would not recommend.

Upgrade the sights are a must.

Not a Glock fan at all... Nothing all that new or innovative with gen 5. But my department issues them out to us for free and every officer has glock mags. Add in a blue label discount... I carry Glocks :/
At least gen 5 is free from those damned finger grooves that don't fit me.

I suspect the new barrels are used solely because they are cheaper to manufacture. The lower priced Kahrs are traditional rifling and the higher priced are polygonal.

All the training I have taken over the years, no one has ever taught to press check. I get the feeling far too many so called trainers watched too much John Wick.

I love my glock 19 gen 5.... I also love my Ruger PC carbine and combined together they work great switching mags and so on.... The beautiful thing is we can have more than one gun so buy as many as you can.... never hate on a gun, like women, they are different, and variety is the spice of life....

I love my glock 19 gen 5 i bought it in july 2022 i went shooting with it 3 times and its a pleasure to shoot and work with.

I’m late to this but wondering if any hand loaders have problems with the g5 not coming completely into battery with loads that function very reliable in gen 3 and gen4 pistols .

All the generations are shit. It's the user that makes the shit better.

These pistols are accurate but the rear sights are trash. They keep sliding left. Interval after interval, they just slide. The front sight post wiggles and needs to repeatedly be fixed. It’s trash. The trigger well needs to be smoother or rounded. My right middle finger has a permanent indent and callous from running the gun. It has a solid feel but that trigger stays sandy and scratchy, spongey, with a wall that is annoying to deal with. The trigger pull feels cheap and it lacks durability. I get it. This is basically the McDonald’s of pistols but the accuracy is definitely there. However, I think there are way better pistols than this for sure. I was excited to get training with this platform as it was my first time but now that I’ve done A LOT of professional level work, I can say, this pistol, is not my first choice. It works, yes, but can it be improved? 100%. Would I go out of my way to buy one? Probably not. Also, the mags…find better springs. Why am I hearing the rounds rattle on this inside? Some are great but a lot of them are trash. Where is the quality I heard everyone talk about? If that’s it then no, Glock is not what people make it seem.

This isn't the gen 5 anymore, I think Glock messed up and then released the real version. Now everything is the way it should be.

Rubbing a gun into the dirt and taking it out without at least shaking it to knock the majority of the loose dirt off is a dumb test.

This is an old version of the GEN five Glock 19. I just bought one and it has forward sirations.
