What was the best software only PC emulator for the Amiga, Amiga fans... The not so good Sinclair QL's 'PC Conqueror' software could actually run PC version of Elite at about 1 frame every 2 seconds! Commander Keen was a little faster. Super slow, but technically CGA compatible. DOS software ran just about acceptably if it was well written. Text mode software such as Lotus 123 and Wordperfect were usable. It needed 512kb or more expansion but that's to be expected. DOS booted off 3.5 floppy in a few minutes.

I know you've said before that you try to do this but please remember to use a low pass filter and get rid of the CRT whine. It's brutal in this video, which is a shame because the peripherals shown are super interesting.

But the Sidecar hadn't a real x86 CPU inside ? It was not a software emulation, except for the graphics.

Had a 1000 then I got a 2000 and added 040 cpu card w9 mb, then a bridge card w/486 then had the card with the Mac ROM's, upgraded to fat agnus, Later I won an 1000 that had been used at Lockheed at the space center that had been modified as they used Amiga's to control unmanned space flight oerations. Later I got a 600 but traded it for ram for the 040.

Emulate a crap PC on Amiga, dont have sense.

Timing of A1000 was good, but at same time, or in near future there should be A500 and 2000, back in 1985. Than in 1987, A3000 and A2500/020, and around 1990, A1200 and A4000/04 with AGA, and finally in 1993 A1300/030 AAA, and A6000/060... And Amiga would still be at least the third player, and technology and money was there... Plus CD32 which could be huge success without spending money on C65, C64GS, UX Amiga variants, A500+, A600, CDTV, Tower models, ultra expensive monitors and hd drives... While almost totally neglecting, at least officially networking, modems and BBS services, regarding the potentials that any other machine had.

I'm very surprised that someone didn't come out with more A1000 sidecar options...
They could have had a CD expansion with an 030 and more RAM on board... all sorts of great stuff.
Maybe even a RTG in all that...

the amiga failed at it's time, cos there was too much "pc noodling" involved. not everyone was a tech geek like you. when it didn't run right when turning on, it was horror show.

I believe I have a complete A-max setuo, drive also, in storage...but was untested. I seem to recall you need a bios chip

I have a A1060 with A100 but when clicking the PC Mono or PC Color icons, the popup window just shows garbled characters. I suspect the RAM is bad?

Back in the day I got a Vortex ATonce card. It plugged into the CPU socket and gave the Amiga 2 processors: a 68000 to replace the removed one and an Intel 286 for running PC programs.
The speed was pretty decent for the day and I was able to run most of the PC software I needed for my studies.
It would be great to review it on this channel... by the way I still have that Amiga and that card is still in it although I haven't been able to use it for many years having lost the software which made it run!

I like my Amiga100 and his 1060 Sidecar, but I also added a graphics card and a hard disk in the Sidecar, so you can use it as an old DOS PC, just for fun

Wish you had tried to test some sound card in the side car like a Adlib or even Sound Blaster since there where 8bit ISA slots available ☺️

In the 90's I used to use a PC emulator on my A500 to run Derive 2.01 and check if I calculate the integrals properly 😁 It took about as long as a Sunday family dinner.😂

They just used the entire Amiga as a video card. You're practically buying a PC that plugs into the Amiga, I'm surprised anyone bought something so expensive.

It's been several decades, but isn't it Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga to reset? The filled & hollow amiga keys on either side of the spacebar.
