Last I checked, Henry, why the hell don’t you chamber rifles in 30-06?
Ответитьa wonderful caliber i have a pre 64 in 30-06 customized, had to send it to a gun smith in Ottawa Ontario, it was rusted out, my dad stored in the shed for 20 years we forgot that we had it, but he kept the bolt hidden in his house, we found the action and the barrel with no stock, barrel was rusted out but thank god the action was good to go, from the serial # it was made in 1958, 1 of 24,000 made that year, lots of history in the beautiful gun, i still use it to hunt, thanks for making this tribute video
ОтветитьIt sure terrified the Germans. Enough said.
ОтветитьI have three 30-06’s now and the last one is a Remington 700BDL. Love the Remington!
ОтветитьBetween YOU AND RON SPOMER ARE THE QUALITY FOR HUNTERS AND SHOOTERS
ОтветитьAmen brother,,,and with continued advances in both propellants and projectiles, I'll bet that it will be around for a very long time.
Great work on the video.
Very informative and very interesting.
😎👍
I really agree about bullet weights. Myself, for my own 06, I have settled on the 180 gr. Swift sirroco. I can do just about everything with it. Except for brown bear which I used the 338, and if I were to do it again, I would use the 375. Just common sense.
ОтветитьMy dad hunted Coast Range blacktails with a .257 Bob, so my first rifle was a Model 99a .250 Savage. He called everything else a "cannon"!
I still hunt with these 2 rifles and many others.
I have a 1903 Springfield Sporter that is wonderfully accurate, and pleasant to shoot. I have gravitated to the 30-06 here in Idaho using the 165gr Barnes TTSX for Whitetails and elk.
In my humble opinion, the 06 was a bit over gunned for the California blacktails as the 25s served me well.
I get great results with IMR 4064 and Barnes 165 Barnes TTSX.
30-06 is awesome if you reload. I can make cheap accurate practice ammo with 147 grain fmj. And I load up max pressure 220 grain Nosler Partitions for a thumper hunting round. Very versatile because there is so much load data and a wide choice of .308 caliber bullets. Plus, I reload 308 win and I use the same bullets and powders for lots of -06 loads.

More than a legend !
My 1918 1903
Is all I have needed or wanted and using 160 gr it's just perfect.
My first bolt action rifle was a .270 Winchester. Choose that mostly because it was a family tradition. When I started helping a hunting pal hand load for 3006, it became apparent that that was the best option for an all around North American hunting rifle. I now own 3 rifles in 3006. I tell everyone to get a 3006 for their first hunting rifle.
ОтветитьI think you can put a 270 in a thirty-ought-six and it will shoot it
ОтветитьI also think you can put a 25 ought 6 in a thirty-ought-six and it will shoot it
ОтветитьI enjoy this gentleman's knowledge and vast wide broad spectrum of knowledge and experience
ОтветитьFirst rifle thirty-ought-six easy to find ammo also next rifle will be 7 mm mag those two should cover quite a bit
ОтветитьSo if a hunter had a thirty-ought-six and a 7 mm Rem Mag and a 404 Jeffery that should cover a full lifetime of hunting
Ответить.270 Winchester is a marvelous round
ОтветитьI'm 5'5 and don't find the 30-06 doesn't have bad recoil at all. Regardless of bullet weight.
ОтветитьGood review. You mentioned the 30-06 service in both World Wars. Let's not forget the Korean War.
ОтветитьNo No No , if it aint broke , keep your dirty stinky hand in you empty pockets, now in 1972 we (USMC Snipers) caught hell with both 308 and 3006, the problem was consistency, each and every lot of ammo was different, I mean 150 thru 178gr.we could not get it right, now smart guys said 300winmag, others said 7mm, and the 280 express, on and on, The problem was not the rifle, but the BS at the Ammo factory, I will not use the names, but a lot of the older worker were being retired, and the new guys were new and untrained, it was a mess, you might as well throw the bullets down range, so around 1987 we got thing back on track, now the 308 and the 06 can shoot against any rifle any where, and another thing weaver made fine rifle scopes, and Unertls were as clear as air.
Ответить.30-06 is legendary and all others are Gucci
Ответитьbest of both worlds cant wait to own one
ОтветитьThe 30-06 is still one of the most (if not the most) versatile rifle cartridges today. Great cartridge.
ОтветитьYup. I have three of them DD 👍
ОтветитьHaving spent time on Antartica, according to rumor the .30-06 was used for specimen collection. Station manager had a meeting and said that the rifle assigned to the station had been destroyed a couple years earlier when I was there a bit more than a decade ago. Every continent in the world if the rumors were true.
Ответитьa very powerful cartridge.IT'S A MILITARY cartridge as well as a Big game Cartridge. it can drop anything IN THE CONTINENT OF NORTH AMERICA... that's a fact.
ОтветитьI have a Winchester, model 70, 30-06 post fire… as far as I’m concerned, talking about 308’s, 270’s etc is a silly conversation! If you want an all around perfect round for everything with 4 legs from here to Africa and all points in between… 30-06! If you don’t, and choose to be more animal specific, then have 3,4,or 5 riffle’s in different calibers. I only need one for absolutely everything… 30-06!
ОтветитьI don’t have a 30-06 in my collection now. Don’t need it but will have one again when I can find a decent Pre 64 model 70 that I can afford. Three rifles that every hunter should own “just cause” are a M70 30-06, Winchester 94 30-30 and Savage 99 in 250-3000. I’d ad a M70 270 to have a matched pair. Happy hunting boys and girls!😊
ОтветитьI like 180 to 200 grns out of 30-06.😊
Ответить30- 06 sucks I take two please thank you have a good life 😊
ОтветитьThis week of Thanksgiving found me at Academy Sports. I did not have any intentions on going there to purchase a rifle, but when I walked by the rifle section, I asked, "What rifles do you have chambered in 30-06?". When the guy showed me a Savage 110 Storm, that's all it took. The rifle's bolt-action works as smooth as spreading worm butter on a hot, morning biscuit! It is designed to adjust the stock, having an AccuStock, for your preference and also is equipped with the AccuTriger. Walmart doesn't carry a large variety of ammo for the 30-06. They seem to mostly keep 150 grain in stock, so this will be the grain I'll end up using. My big game animal is the Whitetail Deer, so this round will be plenty good. Anyway... love the 30-06!!
ОтветитьWhat are your thoughts on the BN36X3 - Carbine-X 30-06 by noreen arms ,Since you stated you have roots in montana?
ОтветитьAbsolutely 💯 % in agreement! I have 2 .270's, Maple Super Grade, a pre-64 std,& a pre-64 featherweight 30/06. Always lean to the '06.
ОтветитьI like many other rounds. I was a diehard 270 man. I still like a 270!!! Its a great round!!! But as far as versatility goes!!! I found the 30-06 to be my choice of all around rifle. From reloading, to stabilizing multiple bullets, to barrel life, to prevalence of ammo!!! I never thought in my life that I would have chosen the 30-06 over all other calibers. But I have!!! It can stabilize and shoot bullets of many brands and weights with accuracy. It is honestly the best big game round on the market even today. Now im not saying it cant be out shot at distances. But you will likely never shoot out of the range of a 30-06 if your an average hunter. And if you use a leupold cds scope you can stretch the 30-06 out to distances that most will never shoot at. I guess you have to really dive deep into rifles to find these things im talking about out!!! And most people never do that. They are mostly average shooters, at average range, and have killed a few animals with whatever round they swear by. But a 30-06 with a leupold cds, the right bullet, a muzzle break, a bedded stock and floated barrel!!! Its an impressive rifle that offers so much more than all other calibers when reloading!!! Not bashing other calibers!!! But in my studies of many calibers i will take the 30-06 over all others!!!
Ответить"When hit right with a 30.06 it stays down" And doesn't suffer!
ОтветитьVery good presentation.well done 3006 forevermore....long live the great cartridge.
ОтветитьI have a 3006 pre war parker hail..what a gun .3x9 Redfield from nam on it...sweet gun . going to pass it on to my son if he is interested in it.
I'm in my sixties now...how time flys...good things never go away...love hunting hope we always have are freedoms to keep going.but in Australia we have a green movement slowly killing us off...stay strong all
30-06 is still the King of rifles for a good reason and all others follow in it's foot steps
Ответить30-06 is my favorite rifle of all
ОтветитьCorrect! My 52 year old model 70 is still a tack driver. I reload with 180 gr. with 53.5 grns of 4350 pushing the Speer point at 2650fps.
ОтветитьThe 06 is the king...
ОтветитьMy grandfather used it a hundred years ago as did my father and now I use it and my sons use it! Been hunting 60+ years and also a gun collector and reloader and after owning at my last est. about 2,500 rifles over those years I can safely say it’s the one cartridge I can count on for anything I ever need to hunt🙌👊👏
ОтветитьThanks for doing this video.
ОтветитьI am seeing many nauseating You Tube videos claiming the 30-06 is obsolete, balderdash. I am right now considering a new hunting rifle, because I am pissed off at these videos, I am looking for a classic Winchester model 70 in 30-06.
Ответить30.06 is great, but that little Hippo statue is badass
ОтветитьI love mine
ОтветитьCorrect( imo) The 30/06 is so versatile.
....and its get.
The .270 and 25/06 are my favorites and have used all 3 ...alot. Old school hunter that I am
Why would you shoot a Zebra??
ОтветитьFrom 100 grains to 250 grains...I prefer the 220 grain for my 1917 Enfield...
Ответить
