i like to listen to albums and i like hard cop be it LP CD and even cassettes that have live performances..I don't wanna depend on "streaming services
ОтветитьI have over 600 cd's in my STILL growing collection. I NEVER missed vinyl and all the crap you have to do to listen to just one side. The only streaming I do is in my truck through xm sat. I understand that many audiophiles LOVE the 'song and dance' ( lol ) of just picking a cartridge to match the genre, then all the zero stat - disc washer - stylus brush, bla, bla, bla. Btw, I turned 18 after a year in the Army, and then turned 19 and 20 on my first and second tours in Vietnam. Suck it up buttercup.
ОтветитьI still have CD around the house, but I took my time and convert them into FLAC audio files...
I wonder how good those things would sound if they convert the needle sound and everything into a FLAC file using top of the line systems, that would solve the issue for vinyls or cassettes nostalgia.
My Denon CD player allows me to repeat sections of any music I happen to be playing. Small sections, or large. They will repeat as long as I want them to. As a musician who wants to learn various musical passages, this is a fabulous asset. This feature is reason enough by itself to own a CD player that has this feature.
ОтветитьIs PS Audio still relevant?
ОтветитьDSD is definitely the best audio format hands down bar none Katie bar the door goodnight Irene!
ОтветитьI enjoy listening to my cds on my cd changer. I buy cds every year. I enjoy listening music while I am doing housework.
ОтветитьThank you for sharing your thoughts. I find the mass consumer market vs the niche market really answers this question. Back in the day when every car had a CD player as standard, has now been replaced by bluetooth technology. Every sony home radio or stereo that came with a buily in cd player, now we have bose, sonos, ultimate ears etc bluetooth speakers. For those that just want to listen to music regardless of quality this pair great with spotify. For the audiophile however I strongly feel CD players are very relevant and offer advantages over both streaming and vinyl.
Ответитьi still like to tap a stick against the cave wall and enjoy those sweet sweet sounds!
ОтветитьMy CDs sound great played on my Samsung Bluray player. I also like having the album cover and pertinent information on my television screen.
ОтветитьI buy more cds than vinyl these days.
Ответитьok...stream? nope. download?....better option. optical disk? another better option. magnetic storage media(hard disk)?....another better option.
why? there is value in a tangible item. something you can hold and store with/on your person.
it's not a subscription you have to renew or a service you have to pay for to access your subscription. anywhere and anytime with the proper playback device your entire collection can be accessed if it exists on your person. nobody can tell you no or the file you requested has been deleted due to violation of community standards or other such ilk. that point right there is a good one to consider when listening to comedy from the 40's/50's or real delta blues or a speech by a former president (take your pick on that one as of late). when you purchase a copy of an audio or video performance ask yourself...do i really own this item i just spent money to access?
DSD is not THAT amazing. Settle down.
ОтветитьPlease everyone sell all your CDs just like you sold all your records so that the industry can make you buy them all back again. I'll buy all your sacd's. Or better yet stream everything, don't own anything so that every time you listen to or watch something you got to pay for it.
ОтветитьI've not bought many CDs recently because much of what I like I've already bought, and a lot of the current style of music I don't like. If more music that I like was being made and released on CD then I'd be buying more CDs. I don't pay money to stream music.
It seems to me that producers of music don't release it on CD because they only sell a CD once, but sell the streamed music many times to the same person.
cd,cassette,lp are more big n real sound if we compare wtih digital file like mp3,mp4,wave n many more.the sound very detail come out from my cassette/cd player..i love my system...
Ответитьwhen can i get the White Album on DSD Paul?
ОтветитьCD sound fantastic it really depends how they're recorded one thing you can guarantee a CD will not wear out like a record and you will not hear the pops and the clicks yes vinyl is coming back slowly but I don't think it's ever going to be more popular than CDs another thing you can play CDs in your car you can't do that with vinyl CDs in my opinion are more useful than records records you have to be very careful with and they always seem to scratch no matter what the hell you do. I still play vinyl but you have to be careful pulling that big discount putting it on the platter it's a little more involved
ОтветитьI'm shocked you can't tell the difference with blu rays and streaming for movies. It's such a massive improvement in video and audio quality, especially the audio mix in different scenes.
ОтветитьCD is lossless, vinyl is not, simple as that
ОтветитьI don't think is correct to compare CD with streaming. CD is a source of music while streaming isn't. But what is the source of streaming? Am I wrong?
ОтветитьPeople used to ask this about vinyl LP record; now they're back at many times the original price If I like certain music enough, I will buy the CD. Take heed, record companies, I will rarely buy an album that I haven't first heard some of the songs on to make sure I like it. I have wasted money buying albums I will never listen to again, and won't buy another from the specific band I don't like the album of. If I like it a lot, I will continue to buy the CDs. I believe in paying for music if I listen to it a lot, because the band, engineers, etc. deserve to get paid. The one downside is when old LPs are not available on CD.
ОтветитьOf course they're relevant. Relevancy exist as an abstract concept in the sense that as long as we believe that it matters it will.
Ответитьi like cds better on a movie player or a xbox or ps3 it sounds more clear then on the radio
ОтветитьI think people still want options. Especially collectors, having something in several physical forms is essential for collectors.
ОтветитьIt's a money thing when it comes to any music media. The more the merrier.
ОтветитьYES
ОтветитьI'm not the one to buy music from Amazon. I love that feeling of coming across some music in various places and being all excited like I found a bit of treasure. Happenstance is a cool thing.
ОтветитьThere's always a need for a CD, like if you land somewhere with poor coverage for example. Plus, you still have the experience factor in play. Putting something in vs opening an app on a smartphone.
ОтветитьI will always avoid any music source that is dependent on the internet and requiring consistent online connectivity. Storms, computer issues and other online interferences are guaranteed realities. A CD or a vinyl album is 100% reliable especially if you have a source of non-grid electricity like solar (or a generator). I have owned both albums and CD's. Born in 1960, I started with albums. I added cassettes, I passed on 8-tracks, and then I started buying CD's. I was stunned by their clarity. Album clicks and pops and cassette hiss were the norm. We accepted those added sounds and, truthfully, they became white noise. However, when the CD arrived, that was a stunning turn of events in sound quality. Crisp, clean, dead silent between passages and songs, huge storage capability, and their diminutive size were intoxicating. I didn't own equipment that was good enough to make A/B comparisons regarding the finer, more detailed differences in sound reproduction between an album or a CD. For me, the only sacrifice was forfeiting the wonderful gatefold artwork, lyrics, and the occasional poster inclusion. Then, as I matured and money became available, I recognized the undeniable impact of better stereo equipment starting with the speakers. With better speakers, the imperfections of albums were highlighted significantly. It was clear that albums would need to be repurchased to acquire new, clean, and well recorded versions. CD's just sounded better through a better pair of speakers. The first CD I purchased and the newest CD I purchased were identical in their dead silence between songs and their clarity of sound. The powers to be making turntables and receivers realized they could make a lot more money if they sold a separate the phono preamp. Suddenly, what worked beautifully for all of us for years was now considered inferior to a separate phono preamp. That led to external DAC's ad CD transports for better CD playback than a CD player. Preamps and amplifiers were marketed as a better choice than a lowly receiver. The upsell continues with cabling, speaker wire, room treatments, and so on. Now, unless someone actually understands analog, you have people buying albums that are made from sourcing digital files. You have to spend a lot more money to find an album that sourced the original analog studio tapes to replicate the albums we all purchased through the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I am unsure when they started making albums using a digital source. It's sad. People assemble a rather expensive analog stereo system and then they purchase (listen to) albums that were made from a digital source. That amounts to a large black CD of inferior, long-term quality. My conclusion is that many people have lost the purpose of listening to music. They have become infatuated with the source and delivery method instead of simply enjoying the music. Heck, we listened to Zeppelin in the car on an AM radio and a dash board speaker through our high school years. It was wonderful. btw, my wife and I own a very nice stereo. We only have CD's. I realized that the albums we would require cost anywhere from $50 and up to get an analog sourced version. Zeppelin really sounds great on our stereo compared to the car radio back in high school, but, in the end, it's the songs that make us smile.
ОтветитьI like physically owning my music. CD's work fine for me, and I can afford the equipment.
ОтветитьStreaming is nothing but 'renting' music, etc via a subscription. No thanks
ОтветитьI thought I had no use for CDs as I have a good turntable and a solid DAC (I would just rip them to my computer). Then a few weeks ago I stumbled across a highly rated vintage CD player at Goodwill for $10. That thing blows away my DAC and is just as enjoyable as my turntable. Another plus is that CDs are so much cheaper than vinyl at the moment. I've been raiding the used CD sections wherever I can find them.
ОтветитьI buy them at goodwill 50 cents a disc
ОтветитьStreaming == lossy compression. CDs == nothing missing. Downloads in non lossy compression acceptable.
ОтветитьCDs are still prevalent as get high quality audio abs I have large collection however I do stream from apple in high res using ifi zen dac . Regards mark
Ответить🤣
ОтветитьIn the same way that I kept my turntables and LPs, I see no reason to get rid of my CDs which I often listen to, even if most of my listening these days is streaming.
ОтветитьP, Thank you for your info on, it's the DAC that is the key to good CD play back. I think I have excellent in both; and paid less than $400 ea. Best, D.
ОтветитьWOWOWOW hold up, wait a minute. Mr. McGowan you really need to watch the same movie first by streaming a scene and then watching the same scene on bluray. Certainly not as important as with music but lossless bluray high resolution audio is so much sweeter to my ears than lossy dolby digital plus that comes from most streaming services.
ОтветитьMy music room and kitchen is the same room.😅
Is that weird?
You bet ya! Dac’s Spotify, tidal … you don’t owned anything but a monthly subscription, it’s a big scam that 90% people fall for.
ОтветитьI own 600+ CDs and I still buy at least one per week. I bought myself recently a CD player with USB support for DSD128. So, does that answer the question of CD player relevance?😉
ОтветитьI always look at cd’s when at estate sales
ОтветитьHi! I have this Turntable AT LP 120XUSB as well as Powered Speakers Edifier S1000 MK II and now I just need to listen to my CDs, I am thinking of purchasing the Yamaha CD Player S303 and I don't wanna spend more money in other devices, so is it worth using my active speakers with this CD Player and its DAC?
ОтветитьHaving a physical "hard copy " of any information, documentation or entertainment in your possession is always preferable to relying on an outside source. We've all seen videos, comments, music etc. that were taken down, never to be seen or heard again... often because they violated some obscure, ridiculous, p.c.b.s. "community standards, " policy.
I have many CDs and DVDs .. some almost 40 years old..they still perform excellently..even when played on somewhat low-end equipment.
The bottom line... never completely trust outsiders with things that you value or just enjoy. As with everything in life..we are and must .. take personal responsibility for our decisions.
I just use my ps3 as a player, optical cable and a good DAC
ОтветитьYes. They are.
ОтветитьCD s is better good video
