Hello! How would your CRS compare to the beautiful 1973 DR103 I've seen in some more recent videos? The massively dynamic, "Fender with mids" cleans of the Two-Rock seem like they'd stack up nicely against the Hiwatt.
ОтветитьLove this video, love your playing, and love two rock amps. Would love to see a discussion on tube rectifiers s solid state. I’m finding tube rectifiers as a through line to amps I bond with, and would love to hear your and Dan’s in-depth, thoughtful take on the subject.
ОтветитьI keep coming back to this video. yes I want one....
ОтветитьI fell in love with a video of someone playing jazz on a fender reverb and I think an original d'angelico, gorgeous sound! I want that beautiful clarity and want an amp that would work really well with a telecaster with ron ellis julian lage pickups, if anyone reads this do you think the classic reverb signature would be a good fit for me? Also thank you for the video i've watched it about a dozen times, cheers!
ОтветитьI’m rewatching this 5 years later, and I got a Studio Signature 35w head, and now I wonder how it compares with the CRS since the SS is often considered as a “baby CRS”. I wasn’t ready to spend big bucks to get the CRS, but I still wonder if at some point I should simply just resell my SS and finally get the CRS.
ОтветитьExcellent video! I love Mick’s passion. I would love to see a follow up on this video after a few years. Does he use it the same?!? Either way, he sounds amazing using it. 👏
ОтветитьIf you like the clean channel, why not a sterling?
ОтветитьDid you use pedals with this CRS demo?
Ответить4 years later I have come back to this video that I used to sit and drool over all the time. I'm excited and slightly overwhelmed to say that I've managed to somehow acquire a slightly used CRS! I honestly thought it would never happen and these amps were just out of my price range forever, but I've become a major strat lover and decided to move on a Gibson ES335 that has gone up a little in value, which has allowed me to buy this amp. Slowly buying and selling has finally led to me scraping together the money to get my dream amp. This channel played a pretty big part in my gear search and learning what sounds I love. Will always appreciate that!
ОтветитьTwo Rocks are nice, but the Price......Not for the working man. You can get Fenders to sound the same. An EQ pedal is an underrated but powerful tool to shape tone.
ОтветитьWhat a great perspective on this!
I have been looking through old vids, have you fellas done a comparison between the classic reverb and the Bloomfield Drive? I would love to see that as I have never been able to even see a two rock before... ): and from what I've heard, these two are probably both my dream amps...
How many watts is your Two Rock ?
ОтветитьI recently got to play through the actual Mulholland Dr. amp John used in that WTLI clip and it was without a doubt the best amp I have ever heard. Now I am here wanting this amp lol
ОтветитьYou mentioned John Mayers sound on Continuum - I guess for most guitarists a sound bible! - he plays Stevie Ray Vaughans old Dumble Steel String Singer on the album which you can see on stage during that time as well. Interesting to know now which of Two Rocks Amps tries to get that sound…
ОтветитьAnd just like that, I want one...
ОтветитьMick, this was a truly enjoyable story. I’ve watched a few times now, enough to make me up my backordered Studio Signature to the Classic Signature combo. Now you’ve gone and done it! Thanks for this wonderful bit of storytelling!
ОтветитьHello Mick ! few years after the release of this video 🤣, i will receive my Traditionnal Clean and matching cab in fews weeks to replace my Victory V40 deluxe. I have build a nice board with the g3 to pair with a clean amp.
My question is, since i wait for my two rock to arrive, all i see on you tube is the Classic Reverb Signature and almost no video of the traditionnal clean ! i had almost sell a lung to buy this amp ! did i have made a mistake ??? i'm after Mayer tone since he release the continuum album, and since that day, it's the type of tone that i want ! ( p.s. i have try the traditionnal clean before buying it, but never be able to try the CRS.
thanks for your awesome channel !
Thanks Mick! This video helped me to decide which Two-Rock would be best for me; I have been seriously looking at the CRS and the Bloomfield Drive. In the end my love of blackface tones (and other "fendery" sounds) swayed me. Thanks for your use of pedals in the video; it really helped to understand how just how flexible the CRS really is ... and of course shout out to your partner in "sounds" Daniel ... the collective knowledge you share are a gift "tone hounds" and "pedal heads" everywhere :)
ОтветитьSounds huge. You’re totally right that this is the more versatile amp. I find that most Two Rocks give ‘only’ that John Mayer sound. The sound too big for a Beatles song f.i. (IMO). You say it sounds like a bulked up Super Reverb. Ik can’t find a comparison between a bf Super and the TR CRS. I would love to hear if the TR can approach the Pastorale sound from Ronnie Earl… that would be the ultimate test for me. Cheers!
ОтветитьSounds incredible!
Totally stuck between one of these and a traditional clean though 😭
With the 40W does the tone change when carrying 6V6 instead of 6L6?
ОтветитьMick, thanks for you and Dan for the great very informative videos given us over the years, I have a special request, to please match up your Two Rock against a Bludotone Ojai, Glaswerks Super Overdrive SOD and Sebago DT-100. It's only fair the an amp that was hypped by JM could be heard against a few incredible amps that no one speaks about them. Just like the Komet 60 against a Trainwreck Express and a ALLYN EXPRESS and Germino JT45 pure incredible amps that possible you never heard of them nor played them and would just an incredible matchup. God Bless from Tony in San Diego California
ОтветитьMeh Mayer? The poster child of wimpy guitarists.
ОтветитьI'm coming back to this video every couple of weeks. These tones and the playing is so tasty. Still waiting for the in depth presentation of that amp! I bought one because of this video by the way.
ОтветитьSlow dancing intro was done on a deluxe reverb. Probably highly modded though. John can play a solid state peavey and it would still sound awesome.
ОтветитьHi Mick, could you describe the clean sound compared to your Mesa Cali tweed please.
I was going to pull the trigger on the Mesa Cali in head/ an version, then I came across a two rock Bi-onyx 100w head and open back cab in mint condition for £1900 the I thought it’ll be worth to give it a try, trying to get to know the amp yet.
Regards
GREAT tone from the ES-335 into the Two Rock...BY WAY OF HOW MANY PEDALS?
It's one thing to use as many pedals as you wish when you play, but to DEMO an amp, one would think one would use JUST THE AMP so we can hear how the AMP sounds, ne c'est pas?
Mick, the consensus seems to be that the current version of the Studio Signature is more or less a smaller-wattage version of this amp - but I very much value your view so I wonder if you've played one and therefore had a chance to compare? (Not that I'm GASing for a Two-Rock of course, and certainly not because of this channel... cough...)
ОтветитьI can´t stop hearing TUROK
ОтветитьHi Mick, we met in Toyko with Dan, Ola & Rabea :) I'd really like to see your Two Rock back to back with your Lonestar. Maybe you have a video already?!
ОтветитьHad the Studio 35 for years also. Thanks for this vid, just bought the CRS and absolutely adore it. Each day switching it on and it's another journey.
ОтветитьI'd like to hear what the amp sounds like cranked up without the pedals. Please.
ОтветитьI know I am late but great playing man.
ОтветитьMick, have you ever heard/played the 40/20 version of this amp? I want to get a classic reverb signature but not sure of the version to get (100/50, 50 or 40/20). This will be a studio use only amp.
ОтветитьMatt Scofield's dad, John Scofield, is a virtuoso guitar player!!!!
ОтветитьAn eloquent personal journey
ОтветитьHow does it sound at bedroom volumes?
ОтветитьJust threw down to get one of these. I anxiously await it's arrival !
ОтветитьMick, I know you’ve had good things to say about the Studio Pro, have you had the chance to play the Studio Signature? The 35 watts seems like it would sit in the perfect spot for me
ОтветитьI always take my two rocks on stage
ОтветитьThis amp haunts my dreams
ОтветитьI had an earlier Classic Reverb 50 and played a a 35 studio pro, I like the Studio Pro much better than teh Regular Classic Reverb 50. It just sounded more alive . The Older Classic Reverb sounded way too polite for me. . This New Classic Signature seems to sound more open and less sterile as well.
ОтветитьIs it too loud for a small venue ?
ОтветитьII'm sorry to be so savage here, because i respect your broad knowledge about the instrument and the honesty of your presentations but) you shouldn't feel "stolen car"about it. you feelings lied to you. if you bought a car like you said, people would look and notice. Having played and toured with band members with those amps, you don't need to be self conscious be3 cause they sound boring. i'll give you direct evidence: picture EVERYONE you know who like such amps. Are they all men? are they all over 40-45? Style of music? ethnic origin? Haircut? All less that 6"? There's a tight pattern. and none of you admit that Clapton was NEVER as good as he was on"Beano", listening to SRV for more than five minutes is boring and you're irrelevant if you play a Strat and don't refer to Hendrix. The people whop are worshipped who "use " these amps do it because they get them for free and don't even consider using one in the studio. And having worked a lot in Nashville, i cant even chalk it up to "nashville session sounds". because on a recording - "snooze" - none of the jobbers or even earners - or even a "last csall: fix it in the mix cut and paste wannabe' would tend to use such generic and passe sounding equipmrnt .I advise playing Gibson Junior, or an esquire, or a tele, or a gretsch, or a casino, or a semi, or a teisco, or any guitar that wasn't a strat. make sure your wife goes to sleep knowing exactly "how deep" your love is. Listen to a whole album where the lead artist isn't a the same ethnic origin as you and plays a strat. Then try and remember hen you cared. (and before you became the guitar equivalent of a MAMIL. Cos thats what you are. :-)
ОтветитьThe 335 sounded great until you put the drive pedal on. I've been finding lately that my amp and other peoples amps are sounding better without pedals.
Over the past month I've reduced my pedal collection from 15 to 4. You just need chops, a nice amp and a nice guitar.😁
I would still like to hear this amp with a serious High Gain pedal or two. The Last part of this Clip , playing on the Collings LP JR style guitar , I am hearing some ROCK tones ! Most clips I hear of these amps are just SRV and John Mayer songs and riffs. I would like to hear some clips of players getting rude on this amp ! Hey, even on my Fender reissue, I can get some Black Sabbath-ish sounds with the right pedal.
ОтветитьMick. Is that a Panerai Luminor?
ОтветитьHow would you compare this to a Hiwatt? My buddy lent me his 50 watt Hiwatt and I found it fairly similar to my Bassman head tone wise, but just tighter and more.. of everything
ОтветитьI'm lucky enough to have an original 50/35w Custom Reverb Signature Mk1 and a 50/22w Classic Reverb and they are both very good amps but different.
Out of the two I use the Custom Reverb Signature Mk 1 live (with a fat neck Heritage H150 which stays in tune) as it's a two channel amp and has a GREAT overdrive channel.
