I had this issue while playing big ps5 games. I used an air can on the fans and I has a load of dust caked onto the power supply righer where the lower dust catcher is. Highly recommend checking the bottom dust catcher and making sure non of the holes on the power supply are covered. It's been about 3 days now and I haven't had an issue. Knock on wood it doesn't happen again

Mine not long ago, flashed the overheating message while I was playing Spider-Man 2, all I did was push ok and the game resumed; my PS5 never shut off though. So I shut it down to give it a very long rest.

I've had my ps5 less than two years. Mine started shutting off on its own multiple times over the last few months. Plus I get a snowy screen and have to manually power off/on the unit. I replaced the HDMI and power cable, had it cleaned out, turned off rest mode and made sure software was up to date. Issue happened on two different TVs so I know it wasn't a power issue. The design is flawed. They did a poor job with the ps5. Never had any issues with systems prior like I do with the ps5.

Overheating is not the issue guys thats the easy explanation. Its a software issue mine started shutting off 3 hours after i unboxed it brand new not a spec of dust in my PlayStation and it has been doing it every since and its not only with playing games games it will shut down on homescreen if downloading or scrolling the ps store. Ive tried all the fixes. Hdmi link, rest mode and blah blah blah nothing works. That being said, PlayStation released a update a couple of months ago and it fixed my console and i could play literally all day without it cutting off until they released the next update and it was back to cutting off. And has been cutting off since i bought my ps5 in March 2023 its now September and still having the issue. Yes ive sent it in to PlayStation repair center when it first started happening and they literally did nothing im convinced they just factory reset my system and sent it back and they dont tell you what they did or if they found a problem or replaced anything they just send it back to you with no change other than the fact you have to re download all your games and log your accounts back in. Worthless. Spend so much money on a console just for it to be worthless and my First Gen first week release PS4 is still running flawlessly. Thats a shame. If i could return it i would have but i got it with a payment plan service and makes it hard to return because i wasnt the purchaser and have no official receipt. I turn it on here and there to see if there is a update and if there is i update it and test to see if the problem is fixed but ive been let down for months. That one update fixed the problem and i even saw another guy online say the same about the update because he was having the same problem. The software is trash and build is rushed to make money and dont care about quality because most people will not return it and wash their hands they will keep it and hope to find a fix. All these videos saying its over heating is BS and talking about its a power socket issue is false ive tried multiple sockets in different parts of my house and on different TV’s! thats not the issue. Ive swapped the power cord… not the issue. Repair center failed PlayStation failed and i will never buy a new one so i will be out of date still using the PS4 until they take it offline.

I bought a defective ps5 which had this issue, hoping to fix it with easy solutions I found online. Unfortunately I had to go down the Rabbit Hole. While disassembling it I found out some screws were missing AFTER the "warranty void" sticker. This made me distrust the thermal paste...I carefully scraped it off and re-applied some.
Now it works perfectly! Remember during Covid these poor bastards had to produce ps5's like crazy? I guess it's Friday afternoon somewhere in China too...

You're blowing dust back in there with the heat sinks. It's gonna shut down more of you do that. Take the fan off, clean it and save a headache and money.

not an issue if you clean the dam thing and keep it in a well ventilated area.

Cleaning consoles and things is a good idea but the main reason these shut down is when it’s super hot weather. It’s just bad design, 40 degree heat outside and it will shut down unless you do something external to cool it.

A regular fan works just put it directly to the back and it cools down and there’s no overheating problem
