I bought a 1990 Thunderbird SC brand new in the fall of 1989. It was a great car. I believe that the power was under rated as it was really fast.

I don't know where you people are getting your information, but the 5,0 Mustangs didn't have 210hp.
I remember reading an article in Road and Track magazine, and in Car and Driver magazine, in 1991, and that's when they claim, the Mustang had finally broken the 200hp mark, with 205hp.
You did get the numbers right about the Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z's.
I must congratulate you for that, because most people get it mixed, and wrong!!!
They claim that it was the Mustang that had 235hp, instead of the IROC-Z'S.
They are sadly misinformed!!!
The Camaro IROC-Z's, and even the Z28's, were far better than the Mustangs back then!!

What made me buy my '88 IROC over the vette at the time was the "bang for the buck." It also handled incredibly well, had decent acceleration (LB9), and pretty good mpg. I still love driving it, 35yrs later.

I had a built 280Z in the early 1980’s. A few Z28’s, 6.6 TA’s & 5.0’s came up short when playing stoplight roulette with me.
The only car I ever raced that I lost to was a whale-tailed 911 on Lee St. one night. 1st gear was a fender, 2nd gear he was a 1/2 car ahead and 3rd he just drove out of my life.

I did encounter a modded GNX. The car ran 7.3 in the 1/8th mile and was owned by a mechanic at Black Olds in Greensboro North Carolina. It was probably the fastest street in Greensboro at that time. Too fast for my little NA 2.8L. I watched him run at Piedmont dragstrip several times. It was surprisingly fast & consistent at 7.35 in the 1/8th.

Where's the Buick Grand National and T-Type's...?!? This list is garbage...!!! My 81 Camaro is an high-eight second quarter mile car... My 79 Z28 is a 468cid powered street car with a th400 and 12-bolt 4.10 rear end... My 72 SS Camaro is a 383cid/t56 6-speed car... she loves corners and is setup for vintage road racing with modern parts...! Thanks, but this last really is garbage without the Grand National...! It was faster than Ferrari and Lamborghini's of the 80s...! Keep up your awesomeness, but you need to work harder from the looks of this list...!

I also remember there was a small dodge pony car size. That was turbo. They where quick too. I never owned one. But a guy in my unit had one.
I don't know the time. But I know it had to be fast enough to be on this list.
I believe it was a Daytona. Maybe wrong on name. 85 ish.

Boy I really wish much more research had been done.
This missed a lot of faster cars.
The 84 mustang SVO should have been on this list.
Not it had to be the 84. 85 and newer had to tone it down.
I'm not a 4 cyl person.
But that SVO ATE UP 5.0s and many other cars. Ford had problem from law enforcement over it. Since they sold them on the idea of the 5.0 GT
SVO were out running the CHP. Hence why the 85;was toned down.
But some took the parts from 84s and put them in 85s
There also was a thunderbird SVO.

By the 80's most cars were boxy, boring, and way underpowered. Imo car design was killed in the late '70s and today's cars are just aerodynamic plastic buckets with a little metal in them.

2001 WS6 Trans Am
6spd.
373 gear,
Shorty Headers,
free flow cats,
Cat Back Bola,
Smaller pulley and a tune,
Beat any car that ran a
1/4 mile in. 11:8 to 12:0
From a roll In first gear to fourth gear.

lot of people I raced taught I was spraying NOS, that’s how bad I beat them.

2003 Cobra with 500 HP, I beat, and he kept saying I am spraying NOS, I had to stop and show him that my car was not spraying NOS.
