LOL! Since when does the government treat anyone as an individual? I work with insurance and I have to say things like "I'm sorry Medicare/caid doesn't cover that." or "I see you need it but Medicare/caid will not cover." More fun is they cover if you have this diagnosis but not that. we need all Dr's notes and a legible Dr's. signature. Wait...the Dr missed one thing. We have to start over. Most insurances follow Medicare. The government was dictating your healthcare before the bill.

Is this guy a real doctor? I doubt.

HC going NHS/UK style - over my dead body - and thats the point of the mass-murderer Berwick.

@AtlasObjectivist If suggesting better patient care is counted as 'radical,' then you should despair for America.

@AtlasObjectivist 'Decentralising' meaning giving local authorities more say in how the budget is spent at a regional level, and using the private sector for management etc. But guess what? Still free at the point of entry, still 19 places above the US in the WHO HC world rankings... and was recently placed 3rd out of 7 countries on 'quality care' by the Commonwealth Fund... whereas the US came in at 6th. Overall rankings: UK- 2, US- 7/7 I was born in the US, but thank God I live in the UK.

Dr. Berwick's speech touches the core of the many challenges we face as patients. I also appreciate his personal stories which we can all relate. The Top Hospitals for Patient Experience by WomenCertified is working on raising the bar for patient experience. We are eager to support Dr. Berwick's vision!

Doctors have strayed from their central mission, and Dr. Berwick calls for us once more to focus on the fundamental reason most of us chose to become physicians comforting and improving the health of our patients. Should all patients be in control?

I think sometimes, what if he would have been allowed to head CMS. Some just don't want great thinkers that can get things done doing things to improve the system.

Dr. Berwick really has it right on. He can hopefully avoid becoming a patient for his bone on bone knee pain by seeing a competent chiropractor and perhaps find the procedure to inject cartilage like material into his knee. My solution has been the alternative medicine route that has the patient centeredness down pat.

I would also assert that hospital staffs are mired in regulations that make it difficult to discern when to share information and with whom we share. We've created a maze of suppositions and left humanity out of the process for the sake of legalities.

Spot on! I am an NP student. Doctor Berwick's views completely aligns with my understanding and beliefs as to what needs to be changed in our existing "healthcare" system.
