I see it all the time in southern Alabama and Florida. It's over. Sadly it's over.

Brooklyn hipster commenting on gentrification, irony overload!

How many working class families lived on Vice HQ's block before the bearded flyover state transplants forced them out in Vice's Hipster Apocalypse?

This is my same thought about the Bundy ranchers trying to steal land from the federal government just so they can sell it to make these... Killing off all the wildlife and building houses. People disgust me.

It's not necessarily a case of people wanting to sell their land. In most cases when an area becomes "hot" property taxes rise to levels so high that the owners have no other choice than to sell.

I thought liberals were supposed to be the progressives? This went from almost useless farmland and marshland to a vibrant community.

I mean look at this from VICE's own description of the video "That property, much of it undeveloped waterfront land, is now some of the most expensive real estate in the country."
So VICE you're saying that undeveloped and unused land should stay that way because some people have laid claim to it as ancestral? Why? So that everyone there can stay under the poverty line?

Here is some more,
"These tactics have successfully fueled a tourism boom that now attracts more than 2 million visitors a year. Gullah communities have all but disappeared, replaced by upscale resorts and opulent gated developments that new locals — golfers, tourists, and mostly white retirees — fondly call “plantations.”"

You're admitting that this useless land is now bringing in tons of money for the local economy that I can only assume was in dire straits before. These people couldn't do anything with that land before and now that someone is making shit loads of money the former owners are mad.

That's like getting mad that your house got foreclosed on because you couldn't make the payments and then someone who can make the payments buys it and upgrades it.

They couldn't make the farmland work, that sucks so they lost it. Now someone has re-purposed the land and made it successful. This isn't news, this is sensational bullshit. The same kind of bullshit I'd expect to see from FOX and CNN. You used to do super cool documentaries about shit that actually mattered, now you're just a physical manifestation of Tumblr.

You're also trying to blame "culture death" on whites, come the fuck on you can't kill a culture. The only way a culture dies is if the people in that culture stop practicing it and you can't force them to stop.

That's what happened to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Developers moved in and totally changed the pristine coast all in the name of money.

If you think this is bad try taking a look at my home island of Oahu in Hawaii. Wealthy investors keep building million dollar apartments all over the island and I'm wondering where the people who are actually from Hawaii supposed to live. They need to make it a law in Hawaii where people can't buy property in Hawaii if they already own more than three properties elsewhere in the US. That way these rich people will actually live in the house they buy and not use them as vacation homes for only two months out of the year.

There needs to be laws to be rushed through the courts to protect the so called children of slaves who are indeed natives, from having there lands stolen under the pretence of a financial transaction. Its unfair that the priviledge be allowed to use their deep pockets to just destroy an entire people and their way of life.
