Just saw this movie yesterday... Pfff. Pretentious, boring and predictable.

I've had movies that I didn't care for but I still always appreciated the artistic effort even if it's not to my taste but with The Lobster ... If I could erase some of it from existence I would and that's a terrible thing.
Something about it makes me hate it.
I've had a few movies that I resented for wasting 2 hours of my life but that's rare and even then I didn't want them annihilated.

I don't mind this one as much but it's still off putting and disturbing.

His new movie, Poor Things, is getting really good reviews. I'll think about seeing it. It's from a book, so if it's not from his fked up brain it might be ok 😅

i absolutely adore his films! this video explained his work so well ! sometimes recaps like this dont capture the true discomfort in his films but this one did them all justice!

Sometimes I cannot help but feel that almost every point made by the author of these videos is arbitrary and can be argued otherwise.

So why didn't the mother get sick? Maybe because of her encounter with Martin?

The basic idea of the film, taking revenge in such a brutal way, punishing the innocents and the amazing cast, made this film unforgetable. I wanted to hate Martin so much but I still could not, just like Kim......even after learning that it was him who destroyed their lives. Barry Keoghan portrayed this psychopathic boy so incredibly well, I think it was an Oscar winning performance. The charming psycho who you are unable to hate even after making your dad kill your own brother.

Damn dude excellent work, after seeing this I dunno how I didn’t find your channel before - seems like something the algo would have pointed me towards… anyway, excellent work! And I loved Poor Things, your analysis absolutely applies to this new piece of Lanthimos’ oeuvre as well. I had the word ‘dissonance’ in my head almost the whole time while watching it, but I think the idea of a synthetic world does a better job of describing what I was experiencing. You’ve got a new subscriber for sure

I watched 1 minute into the video, stopped, then watched the movie- Here are some interesting things so far: There are times where nothing really "scary" is happening yet it feels like the music is telling me it is, making this weird feeling of "Nothing is trying to be scary or everything is trying to be scary" because of the constant fakeness of it all. There are also some scenes where something unscary does feel scary for some abstract reason- Or there are times where you imagine what a scene would be like if it was acted realistically, like times where if there were to be emotions it definitely should be here and it almost shows in this robotic fashion sometimes (like when the son's legs first give out, when he later actually gets killed, and a few other times)

Boy how i loved this film. I was consumed by it, trapped, couldn't even get up to go to the bathroom. By the end, I was rooting for Bob's death. I dont get how Yorgos can make me feel such horrible, amazing things with his movies.

It's very interesting to me how Yorgo's films, Kubrick's films (especially the shining) and Fargo (the TV show) look similar yet, each has it's own originality. Even the music sometimes feels the same...Regardless, each one of them are exceptionally great.

Actually this movie is about intergenerational sin. The doctor's sin affects his whole family and takes on cosmological proportions that can be so destabilizing that they can be directed by a teenager who lies outside the conventional symbols of power: wealth, knowledge and status.

he removes the gloves and then disposes them
it's his metaphorical character.
he has blood on his hands, but unlike Lady Macbeth, he can so easily wipe it away.
he can kill without remorse and then make small talk with his victim's child

I first saw the lobster at a film festival in high school. It was both very good and supremely difficult to watch. I felt physically ill during the film, and nauseous even thinking about it afterwards. Honestly made me sympathize with movie goers in the 30's who had to be carried out of dracula because they fainted. And that's so cool! I never even thought about how the different camera angles could be used to prompt that kind of unease from me. Awesome video, I loved the deep explanations into how everything works together.
