Ferrari 550 Maranello real world review

Still to this day, my most favorite of ALL Ferrari's! Tire wear can be fixed by a proper alignment, for at least in the front. But, you will sacrifice handling!

I really wish the 550 was within my reach, cost wise! What a truly well built machine, and still my favorite of all Ferrari's!

I came for the entertainment value, yet I leave now in tears knowing I will never own one like I used to dream of.

Resurrecting this - Harry, highly encourage you to seek out and try one with Fabio’s 6-1 headers. It may fill that minor gap in excitement you felt was present in Maranellos. Pure magic.

the 550 never looked quite right to me and i can't put my finger on why, everythings there but it i dunno it's like the front and back are from different cars, or maybe it's because it was competing with the aston db7, but now the aston is worth 1/3 as much as the 550 which is telling. mechanically the 550 was on the 2004 db9's level in 1996.

Harry can you do a Ferrari 456 review one day? (If you've done one I can't find it). Preferably a gated shift.

Harry besides the obvious difference of the gearbox between the 550 and the 575, would you choose a 575 over the 550??
I am looking at a 575 right now but I'm just cautious about the gearbox... Any other possible issues that I should look into?

I’m not a Ferrari guy. I’m a hardcore Porsche fan who does appreciate classic Ferrari vehicles such as the 250 Testarossa and 275 GTB. Never really liked the modern cars from them.

But the 550 Maranello always struck me due to its simplicity, subtlety and elegance. Looks clean, sounds clean, drives clean. It’s really become one of my favorite “modern” cars from the brand.

The 575, yeah no. That car is a mess and a shitbox.

Well, I can do that elasticity test in my Busso V6 and is a 2.5, so not quite impressive but I get that you prob. cant do that in Civic VTEC of 90s but an NSX?

This car reminds me of a slightly more modern and much nicer and more special bmw 635csi. Those were quite nice in their day and had a very similar sound.

I love the Maranello for its front engine V12 and the era it was made in.

It is amazing how much easier it is to work on a V engine mounted in the front where it belongs. Excellent engine bay on this car.

The 599 GTB still offered a Manual Transmission Harry, this wasn’t the final front engine GT Ferrari with a Manual 😉
