i feel like people severely overestimate how much money they really NEED in the first place. making 10k a month is, in my opinion, way more money than the average person should need. my goal is just make enough to replace my 9-5 within this year which is around 2-3k a month. i think it’s possible if one puts in the work but jeez 20k?? yeah i wouldn’t expect to make that much until the next 10-15 years 😅 (which is still a healthy amount of time imo)

Great take! I'm actually someone who skipped in-house: started freelancing part time in school, and then hit $20k/m in my 3rd year as a full-time freelancer. I think I'm probably more optimistic than you toward client acquisition outside of an in-house network, but I 100% agree with you on A) it's not probable, and B) regardless, it's better to focus on $1 then $10 then $100 instead of jumping straight to a $20k/m goal.

It's just I've always seen these testimonials of making 1k after a month of learning copywriting, which is beyond me. I'd be satisfied if I could get one client as a beginner lol

You have better odds of making that much money in 1-2 years as a software engineer than in copywriting in 3 years, unless you have a lot of money in your pockets to get higher reach for clients.
