they say it’s piracy to sell their games if your not a licensed retailer but then stop making the games too be sold. I could understand switch emulation since it’s their newest console and still makes them a profit but stopping people from enjoying 20+ year old games is just bullying 😂

Dolphin doesn't even work for me. I download the app, and the rom for a game, snd no matter what I do, the rom never shows up for me to play.

They are technically legally in the right but it’s still scummy and goes against the preservation of games

The decription code has been publicly available for 15 years and this is the first time they do anything about it.

People can still add dolphin as non steam game and play it (although it's a bit tricky get all the pictures and games running)

No good game coming to switch this year? This is really wrong. There are some new interesting game coming to switch. You just see the first party when there are other good third party game too.

The Dolphin Emulator team knew what they were doing. That key makes it so any rom will work. The intention was clearly to make it so piracy was easy, and goddamn it is.

The main issue is that the steam deck is effectively following the design ideas of the switch... and has set itself up as a direct market competitor to the switch. Allowing software on their platform that enables users to steal the intellectual property through roms which lets face it are 99.99999infinitum% of the time illegally downloaded rather than user made back ups basically means Nintendo would be handing over the IP that makes them money to their competitor.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have ever been brazen enough to openly allow emulator software for a competitors hardware on their consoles... and for good reason - it sets a precedent that IP theft is OK.
