This sums up why I don’t get Jimmy Carr’s humour. For the sake of argument, ignore the offensive elements of that joke for now. Is it that funny? Or is the actual joke the fact that it’s offensive?

Don’t get me wrong. I’m OK with offensive humour. It annoys me when people say they are outraged by him sometimes. To me, that’s like a vegetarian being outraged by meat at a farmer’s market; like what exactly were you expecting? If you don’t like that style of humour, don’t watch Jimmy Carr.

But if the whole joke is just that it's offensive, that doesn't work for me.

Wow. I wonder if he visited the numerous orphanages with children that have found themselves own because their parents died of the thing he's joking about. Some jokes no matter how offensive that are played often enough become the fabric of society's conscience. It's not about Cancel Culture but how society already holds truths that are self evident. Telling jokes about rape and undermining many countries of their crippling experience of HIV where nearly a generation have been wiped out.
Should we make light of an tragedy where the west have largely ignored. Still want to hear it? Let's poke fun of the powers that have largely ignored and have undermined countries within a continent which have been largely exploited.
